Being Both - A talk on Mixed Identity and Dual Citizenship with Megumi Nishikura

Multippl is proud to host an in-person talk with documentary filmmaker 🇯🇵✖️🇺🇸 in London!

🎥 Megumi is the director of “HAFU - the mixed race experience in Japan” and is currently working on a new documentary about Japan’s nationality laws.

In this special event, she will speak about hāfu identity and the realities of dual citizenship in Japan today. She will be showing clips from and a world exclusive preview of her newest film

This Thursday 30th October join us from 7pm to celebrate the end of Hāfu2Hāfu x Multippl, a special two-week photography exhibition on mixed identity at The Casbah (20 Little Portland Street, London, W1W 8BS)

At the closing event expect free Halloween-themed ‘Yōkai’ cocktails and mocktails, a Hāfu2Hāfu question card, good music + vibes and meet likeminded people in a safe space!

After the end join us at Moyagi, 3 minute walk from the venue and enjoy free karaoke usually worth £25 per person!

We’re sharing this thought-provoking exhibition: Hāfu2Hāfu x multippl by photographer Tetsuro Miyazaki, on at The Casbah in London W1W 8BS.

The project features black-and-white portraits of people with one Japanese parent from over 100 countries, each paired with a personal question about identity. It’s a powerful reflection on multiculturalism, belonging, and the many ways we define ourselves.

The exhibition runs until Thursday 30 October - with free admission Monday - Friday, 10am to 9pm.

The photography exhibition, Hāfu2Hāfu, will run from 16 to 30 October 2025 in London.

Hāfu2Hāfu is a project created by Netherlands-based Japanese-Belgian photographer Tetsuro Miyazaki, who set out to photograph a hāfu – a person with one Japanese parent – from every UN-recognised country.

Alongside the black and white photographic portraits, taken with hāfu from over 100 countries, are pressing questions related to identity that each portrayed person poses directly to the viewer.

This unique snapshot reveals the commonalities and differences in the hāfu experience, and provokes a personal reflection on identity, diversity, and multiculturalism that transcends the mixed-Japanese experience.
