A member representing Ovia North East Constituency II in the Edo State House of Assembly, Andrew Uzamere, on Friday said he had been able to bring the dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of the people of his constituency.

Uzamere stated this while presenting his scorecard to members of his constituency at Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state.

He said he had been able to do so much due to the opportunity he got to serve and the support he had been given over the years, while seeking re-election to consolidate what he had done for his constituency.

Uzamere, who is a member of the Education Committee in the House of Assembly, said he had provided a West African Examinations Council/National Examinations Council scholarship scheme to over 500 indigent students across all public secondary schools in the constituency, sunk 15 boreholes, built and renovated nine schools with modern toilet facilities and carried out solar electrification projects.

edocelebs reports that the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Eugenia Abdallah disclosed this during a visit to the Home.

Abdallah said the facility was shut down following complaints of alleged irregularities in an adoption process by one Mr Monday Akpaduma.

She added that a staff member of the Social Welfare Department in Owan East Local Government Council, Mr Vincent Ogbodo is declared wanted in connection with the incident.

She alleged that the Social Welfare Department staff was the source of the documents for the transaction.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owan West local government area of Edo State has set conditions for the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, before he can join the party.

The party insisted on formal processes and reconciliation prior to his participation in party activities.

At the end of an enlarged emergency meeting held yesterday at the party’s secretariat in Sabongida-Ora, the stakeholders resolved that the speaker must formally decamp at both his ward and local government levels before being considered for acceptance.

The meeting, attended by top party functionaries—including LGA chairman, Hon. Frank David, secretary Evien Aigbokhai, former House of Representatives member Hon. Johnson Abolagba, ward executives and other stakeholders—further directed that Agbebaku must fully integrate into the existing party framework at the local government level.

BENIN CITY — Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has reiterated the need for collective responsibility in tackling insecurity as he received members of the Concerned Edo Hunters Association, Edo South Chapter, at Government House, Benin City.

At the meeting, which also served as a condolence visit and formal introduction of the group, the deputy governor commended the hunters for their role in supporting security efforts across the state.

Idahosa, who received the delegation on behalf of Governor Monday Okpebholo, acknowledged the contributions of both formal and informal security actors, noting that safeguarding lives and property requires the cooperation of all stakeholders.

“Security is a collective responsibility, and you all have contributed your quota to ensure that Edo State remains safe,” he said, while offering prayers for members of the group whom he described as men and women committed to protecting the territorial integrity of the state.

. Seeks urgent Fed intervention

ABUJA – The Senator representing Edo Central, Joseph Ikpea, has called for urgent federal intervention to address what he described as worsening ecological disaster threatening communities across Esan land.

Moving a motion on the floor of the Senate titled “Urgent Need for Immediate Federal Intervention to Address Escalating Ecological Degradation Across Esan Land in Edo Central Senatorial District,” Ikpea warned that unchecked erosion, flooding, and deforestation are already destroying livelihoods, infrastructure, and settlements.

He said that Esan land, which lies within a fragile ecological belt of rainforest and derived savanna, is naturally prone to erosion due to its terrain, but noted that human activities have significantly worsened the situation.
