First released in 1954 by The Chords, Sh-Boom is often hailed as one of the first doo-wop hits - a song that’s been covered countless times. But did you know The Marvels flipped it and released a cut on Pama Records, reworking it as “Shh Boom”? 🔥

And let’s be honest… when some of you hear this tune, do you instantly think of that scene in Pixar’s Cars? 😅🚗💨

With tracks like Don’t Blame the Youth, Africa, and the title track Free The People, the album balanced soulful vocals with powerful lyrics about identity, injustice, and liberation, all delivered in Groovy’s signature smooth style.

One of the more underrated releases in the Pama catalogue, but a record that speaks volumes.

A true pioneer of Jamaican music, Byron Lee helped bring ska, calypso, and reggae to audiences across the globe. As leader of Byron Lee & the Dragonaires, he played a major role in shaping the sound of Caribbean music and promoting it internationally - long before it was a global phenomenon.

From tight horn sections to infectious dancefloor rhythms, his influence can still be felt today in every corner of the genre.

🔸 Next: Spirit of ’69 – The Records That Defined an Era - a brilliant look at the ska, rocksteady and reggae tracks that shaped culture, style, and sound system energy in late 60s Britain.

Proper essential reading, salute to John for the love and the legacy. ✊🏽
