For the first time in almost 1,000 years, the Bayeux Tapestry is on English soil - and it's now open to the public at the British Museum.

The 70-metre medieval masterpiece, depicting the 1066 Norman invasion and the Battle of Hastings, arrived in London under tight secrecy in July before going on display from 10 September until July 2027. It's on loan from France, in one of the most significant cultural exchanges in recent memory - arranged during President Macron's state visit, with the British Museum lending back treasures from the Sutton Hoo hoard in return.

British Museum director Nicholas Cullinan called it an extraordinary moment, decades in the making. For most of the last millennium, this tapestry has never left French soil - until now.

Nearly three decades after she first stepped into the role, Tilda Swinton is returning to the London stage this September in "Man to Man" at the Royal Court Theatre - a landmark solo performance about a woman who adopts her late husband's identity to survive in N**i Germany.

It's the kind of theatre moment that doesn't come around often: one of Britain's most acclaimed actors, revisiting the very role that helped launch her from stage to screen, in an intimate one-person show that's already being called unmissable.

September's West End is stacked with star power more broadly too - Cate Blanchett, Gillian Anderson and Mark Rylance are all on London stages this month - but Swinton's return has a weight of its own.

Would you brave the ticket rush to see this one live? πŸ‘‡

BoE KEEPS RATE AT 3.75%

Bank of England holds firm - but Governor Andrew Bailey warns rates may still have to rise if the Middle East conflict drags on and energy prices keep feeding into wages and prices. The MPC split 6-3, with three members pushing for a hike to 4%. Brent crude is already up 36% since July, UK gas up 78% - and October's energy price cap is set to jump to Β£1,723.

"The risk for energy prices, and thus inflation, continues to be on the upside." - Andrew Bailey 🏦

'MERGER IS NO ANSWER'

City of London Police chief pushes back on force merger talk - says reform needs stronger outcomes and closer partnerships, not a structural shake-up. The Square Mile backs Β£110bn and 2.5 million jobs across the UK - Tijs Broeke says protecting it means smarter policing, not bigger mergers.

"Crime is changing. Technology is changing. Policing must change too."

One of London's most iconic buildings is being reborn as one of its most ambitious wellness destinations.

Six Senses has just opened its first London spa inside the former Whiteleys department store on Westbourne Grove - a building with over a century of history, now transformed into an underground-station-inspired wellness space. It's home to London's first-ever magnesium pool inside a hotel, alongside a flotation pod, a cryotherapy chamber, and an Alchemy Bar for personalised wellness rituals.

Beyond the spa itself, Six Senses Place adds a members' social and wellness club- combining co-working space, a lounge, and treatment rooms under one roof, blending work, rest and recovery in a way few London venues attempt.

It's part of a bigger shift too: London's wellness scene has quietly exploded this year, with members' clubs, hotels and longevity-focused spaces all racing to open something genuinely new.

Would this tempt you in for a visit? πŸ‘‡

Research into London's school population has long confirmed what many residents already know: London remains one of the most linguistically and culturally diverse cities in the world, with around 300 languages spoken across its boroughs - a figure rivalled by very few cities worldwide.

The diversity is deeply woven into the capital's geography. Areas such as Brick Lane reflect a long-established Bengali community, Southall carries a strong Punjabi and wider South Asian heritage, Peckham hosts thriving West African markets and businesses, and Chinatown has maintained a continuous presence in the city for over a century. Each community has shaped its local area's food, retail, festivals and daily rhythm.

Census data backs this up at a citywide level too: while the majority of Londoners cite English as their main language, more than one in five speak another language at home - from Polish and Bengali to Gujarati, Urdu and beyond.

The result is a city where cultural exchange happens not as an occasional event, but as part of ordinary daily life.

Cancer treatment that once took over half an hour can now be done in about seven minutes - and England is the first country in the world to roll it out.

NHS England has approved a new under-the-skin injection version of the immunotherapy drug atezolizumab, cutting treatment time by up to three-quarters for hundreds of eligible patients. Instead of a lengthy intravenous infusion, it's now a quick jab - freeing up appointment slots, cutting hospital time, and letting cancer teams treat more patients each day.

Dr Alexander Martin, a consultant oncologist involved in the rollout, called it a genuine step forward for both patients and staff.

Small in the moment, significant over time - this is the kind of quiet innovation that adds up to real capacity across the whole system.

Would this kind of change make a difference for someone you know? πŸ‘‡

The City of London is doubling down on justice - a brand-new courts complex at Salisbury Square, sitting right between the Old Bailey, the Royal Courts of Justice and the Inns of Court.

18 courtrooms. A new City of London Police HQ. And a message from the Lady Mayor herself: Britain's legal system isn't just a pillar of justice - it's a global economic asset.
