The latest figures from Nationwide Building Society’s House Price Index show that house prices have fallen at their fastest rate since 2009.

In the year to May, the building society saw prices fall by 3.4%, representing the biggest fall for almost 14 years. Prices also dropped slightly month-on-month by 0.1%.

As a result, the average property price in the UK now stands at £260,736, remaining 4% below the peak seen in August 2022.
