As evening fell, Jesus and his disciples set out to cross the Sea of Galilee in a small wooden boat, leaving the crowds behind on the shore. Exhausted from a long day of teaching, Jesus lay down in the stern of the boat and fell fast asleep, resting his head on a cushion. Without warning, a fierce storm swept across the lake, dark clouds rolling in as violent winds churned the water into towering waves. The boat pitched and rocked wildly, waves crashing over the sides and filling it with water. Terrified, the disciples, many of them experienced fishermen, feared they would drown. In a panic, they rushed to wake Jesus, crying out that they were about to perish. Jesus rose calmly, stood facing the raging wind and sea, and spoke with quiet authority, commanding the storm to be still. Instantly, the wind ceased and the waters became perfectly calm. Turning to his disciples, Jesus gently rebuked their lack of faith, then asked why they were still so afraid. The disciples were filled with awe, marveling at the power of the one who could command even the wind and the waves, realizing they were in the presence of someone far greater than an ordinary teacher.
