Tip #4: Limit overstimulation

Festive gatherings can be fun, but they can also feel overwhelming, especially if you live with epilepsy or care for someone who does. Bright lights, loud music, and busy environments can increase stress and fatigue, which may trigger seizures.

To help keep things calm:

• Take breaks in a quiet space if you start feeling overloaded
• Keep routines steady for children; regular meals, naps, and bedtime help maintain balance
• Avoid too many flashing lights or loud noise and consider dimming lights or lowering music volume
• Plan ahead and let hosts know if you need a calm area or quieter activities.
