It might be the premium brand of choice for large-scale farms and contracting businesses, but just like any other maker, Fendt tractors can suffer the odd mechanical gremlin. Engine problems with 828s and failing Vario transmissions on the 700 series are some of the headline faults.

The main gremlins with 10-series John Deere tractor engines are head gaskets and emissions-reducing add-ons such as the EGR valve and cooler.
Serious engine failures are rare, but they can happen, particularly if the driver doesn’t spot the early warning signs. Recently, a 6930 on about 7,000 hours dropped an exhaust valve on cylinder number five and the operator continued to drive it.
Repeated hammering of the piston into the valve caused metal fragments to move throughout the engine, stuffing the turbo and the cylinder head, and eventually causing the piston to seize in the liner.
Putting it right involved fitting a complete top-end engine overhaul kit, including pistons and liners, a cylinder head assembly with gaskets and uprated bolts, plus a turbo.

I never was impressed by the John Deere 8430s but those 4020s would be worth some good money. It's amassing what an 'average' 4020 will sell for. Not to uncommon for one to bring $15,000 and I have heard of one selling for $27,000 a couple years ago.
There is an 8430 Deere sitting on the side of the hill, has not been moved in ten years or more. I knew these people at one time, the dad died years ago and the boy got a job in town and lost interest in farming.
I have heard that in the machine shed is a 4440, a 4020 or two, a 6620 Deere combine, a twin screw IH conventional road tractor that they bought used in the seventies and a hopper bottom grain trailer. At one time they had a lone 1973 model IH 1468, it was near new at the time and had the IH deluxe white cab, it was equipped with 30.5 by 32 tires and was a mean looking rig. Other than this lone IH tractor, they used mostly all green in their heyday but always had a brand new 8 wide row IH Cyclo planter sitting around, have heard there is also one of those planters in the shed. All of this stuff has been sitting since the old man died. There is also a good sized wing disc sitting on the hillside.
