“Hi, I’m Ed, father to Eli Jasper, born July 24th 2020, mid-pandemic. So yes, I am a pandemic daddy… or as I like to call it a ‘Pandaddy’. I debated as to whether I should comment upon covid in all of this, given I think it has had too much air time, but I think it’s important to honour it as a first-time father. To compare it to any other sense of fatherhood is impossible given it is my first time, but I want to go on the record to say that 2020 was one of the best years of my life! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Covid certainly played its part in our experience and I could list lots of negatives, but actually, I feel totally privileged as a father, having spent every single day with him, through a period where I may have otherwise been trying to work. That bond and time is absolutely priceless, I believe it’s a lot deeper than if there wasn’t a pandemic. So while covid and lockdown was terrible globally, it played a majorly positive role in my new fatherhood. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I do think the world, the western world specifically, needs to address its relationship with parenthood and what that represents so that fathers do get the ability to have a rich, deeper, longer experience at the early stages of birth.” - Ed
