"The principle that should guide anybody that has a public role, as an administrator or politician, is the very principle that we are all interdependent, all part of the human family. You cannot achieve freedom, nor justice, or equality if you don't realize deeply, deeply, not just as a generic moral aspiration, but as a deep anthropological and philosophical concept, that we do not exist alone. We have been generated, we are part of a family, and that family is our family, our city, our country, but our family is also the world, is human.
So being human is the only way to achieve both our individual goal and the common goal, which are all interconnected. We cannot address any of the challenges, opportunities, or problems of our time if we do not restart with a change, both in our specific disciplines, practical or theoretical, which puts this very important principle at the heart."
During this past weekâs World Meeting on Human Fraternity at the Assemblea dellâUmano in Romeâs historic Campidoglio, in an interview with our Marco Biagioli the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri called for a paradigm shift in public service, one that places this principle at the core of both practical governance and theoretical discourse, arguing that only by embracing our shared humanity we will effectively address contemporary challenges.
These words and the vision of the Mayor of Rome on Human Fraternity stand as wake-up call and urgent appeal for a new era of governance, one where empathy and collective purpose guide every decision, uniting humanity in a shared destiny. From the Eternal City, this message carries offers a blueprint that global leaders would do well to heed in shaping a future of justice, equality, and common purpose.
Bravo, Rome, once again leading the way for humanity.
