The New Years Honours list reminded me of Phil Scranton who chaired the Independent Inquiry into the Hillsborough Disaster.
I met Phil Scraton when I went to speak in Belfast in August 2016 about the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign. He teaches law at Queen's University, Belfast.
He talked to me about how he had to resist all sorts of pressures to ensure that the Hillsborough Independent Panel report really was independent.

Hillsborough campaigner Prof Phil Scraton turns down an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

Only the Financial Times and Guardian thought the murder of five journalists in Gaza merits the front page in today's newspapers.

The Israeli military killed five Al Jazeera journalists with an airstrike on a press tent in Gaza City.
