Spectral transmissions Episode 06: Peripheral Visions
“Before it all seemed so simple, things cast shadows.
But now it turned out that shadows cast things, or perhaps things didn’t exist at all”
Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky

In the sixth episode of Spectral Transmissions, as the shadows start to lengthen we turn our minds to the place where the street lights end. Out here on the periphery, flickering visions and half heard noises scuff our logic with their insistent truancy. Fragments of things unbound by our narrow grasping.

“On cold winter nights we would occasionally perceive a strange glimmering of lights, a marked pulsating luminosity in the very edges of our vision accompanied by a vibrant oscillating frequency of sound, taking in certain cases, the form of bright circular waves, which seem to move from out on the periphery inward towards the centre, but if we tried to look directly at them to see them more clearly they evaded us, seeming to drift and fade, dissipating like so much smoke. “

In a garden by the lea, the space between two rain showers slows time for snails to sound.

Score & alto saxophone: Artur Vidal
Clarinet: Stephan Barrett
Sonic clouds: Adam Kinsey

'Mémoire imagination' is part of an ongoing series of slow improvisations that often take place outdoors. The music is set to the pace of breathing cycles to allow time for observing musicians’ internal and external sonic environment. Beatings, unisons, harmonics, chords, microtones, dissonances and multi-phonics may occur.

Resonance EXTRA

Resonance EXTRA is a broadcasting project launched in December 2015 by London’s world-renowned non-profit arts radio station Resonance FM, powered by a global community of artists with a shared dedication to radio art, sound art and innovative music.

Resonance EXTRA works with artists and broadcasters within the UK around the world to create live and pre-recorded radio programmes and artworks for broadcast. We’ve worked with artists from more than 30 countries and broadcast to a global audience of a quarter of a million people. Our audience is truly global - more than 75% of our listeners come from outside the UK.

Our mission is to create a broadcast space for audio and radio artists of any background or location to experiment, create and innovate; to deliver a broadcast programme that reflects the diversity and quality of works typically under-represented within traditional media; and to bring to the widest possible audience the opportunity to listen to and partake in live art as it is created and curated.

Launched in December 2015, Extra has quickly grown in to a force in UK radio that served more than a quarter of a million listeners in 2017. We’ve worked with hundreds of artists to produce and broadcast more than 1000 original radio programmes and original radio artworks, which can be browsed in our programmes archive. Resonance EXTRA provides programming information via its schedule and in real-time via Youtube.
