** NEW PODCAST NOW UP ** Podcast 18 – Sorry to Leave You

Could this be the end of Music Natters? Well, it certainly will be the end on Spotify as they’re withdrawing the ‘talk and music’ function due to their incredible shortsightedness (I think that’s what the press release said).

Louie again shows how far he’s come by telling us that he actually listened to part of the lyrics ‘at one point’.

They chat to long time listener Joel who, from the comfort
of a shopping centre, rightly decries the fact we can’t listen to Garry Glitter’s well loved Christmas song anymore. They discuss the fact that newborn babies shouldn’t be allowed into The National Portrait Gallery as they can’t even see.

Louie had another thought, but it escaped his head
immediately and tells us about his most disappointing sunrise.

Louie bangs on about friendship, while Nigel makes it clear he is available for podcasts and radio shows etc without Louie.

** NEW PODCAST NOW UP ** Podcast 17 – For Folk’s Sake

Nigel and Louie dive into the broad, deep ocean of folk music, a very difficult genre for Louie due to the depth and intelligence of lyricism and the clever nature of the music construction.

Louie asks the important question ‘Do we need to listen to old music’, forgetting of course that he doesn’t like modern music.
Louie also asks why he can’t exist in a continuous state of happiness and goes on to judge the value of a place simply by its name.

Louie introduces an exciting new feature to the podcast, ‘Listener’s Corner’ with, generously speaking, ‘mixed’ results. Thanks to Boris, Joel and Malcolm.

Like a stopped clock, sometimes Louie is right by accident – which happens once in this podcast.

Like our listeners, Derek the pug snores his way through the podcast.

** NEW PODCAST NOW UP** Podcast 16 – Random Shazamdom

Louie – ‘I’ve forgotten what I was going to say’.
Nigel – ‘Good’.

Step into a completely random world of fabulous songs, which Nigel discovered using the popular app ‘Shazam’.

Louie refuses to say whether he’s taken illegal drugs or not and Nigel relates tales from busking on the London underground.
Louie says he ‘hates himself’ for tapping along to Lizzo, though enjoyed the shouts of ‘Bitch!’

Louie constantly struggles to remember things he wanted to talk about, and Nigel plays Louie the most negative song ever to chart.
They discuss the chances of Louie’s girlfriend being a spy for Ireland and having to use Louie for cover and having a rich and handsome husband back home.

Louie desperately tries to get our listeners – or anyone – to write in to us ([email protected]) as ‘there’s a strong chance you’ll get mentioned’. He then reads Catherine’s email with delight and feels we should get in touch with listener Joel for mysterious reasons.

They discuss the advantages of getting rid of Louie from the podcast, especially when he’s half a century out when guessing the year of the final song.

The final discussion relates to the possible brutal ways in which you can lead horse to water AND make it drink.

For the latest episode of Music Natters, I introduced Louie to his least favourite type of music - urban/hip-hop. Naturally, I dashed off a rap of my own which you can hear below. If you'd like to leave a 1 or 2 line review I'll read the funniest ones out on the next podcast.

NEW PODCAST UP NOW! Episode 15: 'Louie Goes Urban'.

Louie: ‘I would like to be more streetwise.’

Louie is forced to face his fears as it’s time to explore the genre Louie hates most of all – urban music! But will he discover he likes more hip-hop songs than he thought?! (SPOILER: yes)

Louie kicks things off by demonstrating just how much he’s learned over the course of 14 music podcasts, by stating ‘There’s
good stuff and there’s bad stuff’.

He goes on to tell a horrifying tale of how some ‘urban’ kids bullied him on his delivery rounds and he had to call the police, which he compares to the Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

Louie tells a story about the hokey cokey which turns out to be nothing about the hokey cokey and gives some invaluable advice about what NOT to do if you ever find yourself in Thailand at a Full Moon Party where they’re selling laughing gas balloons.

Louie annoying slurps his tea throughout the start of the podcast (which he WILL NOT do in future), and the caffeine it contains makes him paranoid for the rest of the show. This is not a joke.

Nigel does a rap song.

** NEW PODCAST - Episode 14 - CHRISTMAS SPECIAL - UK Christmas No.1's **

Louie: “Cream was like a rock band, wasn’t it?”

It’s Christmas time and time to give Louie the gift of knowledge
on UK Christmas Number 1 singles, with heaps of festive tunes, listening to the first EVER no.1 as well as the first ‘novelty’ record to top the Christmas charts.

Hit play NOW to hear Louie’s incredible ingratitude as he asks why there’s not more ‘rock’ music and jumps the gun complaining about the lack of ‘Last Christmas’.

Louie defines the entire decade of the 1950’s as “Suburbia and washing machines being invented” (he’s only 100 years out on that one).

They talk about whether Nigel is too ‘mean’ to Louie (he isn’t) and if Louie deserves all that Nigel throws at him (he does). This is fully supported by Louie later suggesting Nigel commits su***de.

They also discuss by far the most popular Music Natters podcast (Episode 05 – Songs That Make Nigel Cry) and the least popular (Episode 07 – Threesomes).

Louie reveals how he’s being Father Christmas in two different ways this month and how best to lie to children.

NEW PODCAST! Podcast 13 – "Halloween Special"
LISTEN NOW: https://www.musicnatters.com

For the 13th Music Natters, Nigel and Louie delve into the darkness with this Halloween special, choc full of spooky tunes and ‘astonishing’ Halloween facts.

Louie, dressed for the podcast like a fisherman gnome, confesses that prior to drink and women, his main vice was horror films, though he immediately confuses Friday 13th with The Exorcist…and then The Exorcist with The Omen.

Louie, to his credit, has one correct fact about Mike Oldfield and tries to further impress with his knowledge the most famous equation in history plus his B in GCSE French.

The continual howling and singing of the world ‘Werewolves’ in Werewolves of London isn’t enough to make Louie realise the song is about Werewolves.

Louie reads out a listener letter which foolishly defends Louie and they discuss the ton of people following us on Instagram (.natters)

They ponder on what the ‘magic stick’ in Black Magic Woman might be. Louie admits to attending the Brownie Guides Disco on multiple occasions without explanation.

Derek, the sinister black pug, snores on Nigel’s lap throughout the whole recording.

NEW PODCAST! Podcast 12 – "Wait, what?! THIS is a cover?!"
LISTEN NOW: https://www.musicnatters.com

In this podcast, Nigel shatters Louie’s very foundations with original versions of songs he had no idea were covers in the first place.
Louie is STUNNED when he hears how many vocal takes Mark Almond took for Tainted Love. He’s SHOCKED when he hears that Billie didn’t sing Mickey. He’s absolutely FLOORED when he hears that Toni Basil is a woman! You’ll NEVER guess what Louie did next….(hint: nothing).

Despite having had no sleep the night before, Louie manages to explain that hearing a different version of a famous song is like going to Ireland – ‘a parallel universe’.

While Nigel bemoans his lack of dance skills, Louie enjoyed a dance class so much he never did one again. They discuss how musicians they talk about on the podcast tend to die quite soon afterwards (Tina Turner, Sinead O’Conner etc).

Louie tries to soften any fatwa on him from the last episode by wishing ‘Goodwill to all men. And women…and dogs…and non-binary people.’

They discuss the importance of getting permission from Paul McCartney to record a version of ‘Hey Jude’ altering the lyrics to “Hey Jude, go f**k yourself”.

They finish the podcast discussing Louie’s imminent demise.

** NEW PODCAST ALERT ** Podcast 11 - CREEPY SONGS

‘You’ve genuinely creeped me out’ – Louie.

‘I’m more confused than ever’ – Also Louie.

In this episode, Nigel forces Louie to really pay attention to the lyrics as he plays him dark and creepy songs.

Louie compares Enrique Iglesias to Shakespeare. He goes on to favourably compares ‘Music Natters’ with The Satanic Verses and genuinely fears assassination after Nigel asks if the Koran specifies death to any who draw pictures of the prophet Muhammed.

Louie explains he always thinks of music in relation to the music video and that if he hasn’t seen it, he’ll make one up in his head for it.

Louie sneakily steals the opinion of someone else and then fails to back it up, spending several minutes trying (and failing) to think of
a film where men follow women around in a creepy way.

Nigel is delighted that Louie really didn’t enjoy this podcast and feels it’s not at all suspicious that Louie knew most of the very
creepy songs already.

The noise of multiple aircraft invades the Music Natters studio.

We've got cracking new episodes on the way - but have you missed any?! Here's our top (and only) 10!

10 - Singles Chart Nightmare!
Nigel and Louie embark on a sadistic hour of torture as they listen to the Top 5 singles in the UK singles chart in June 2023, which together took 17 songwriters to construct.

09 - TV Theme Songs
Louie’s favourite TV theme song is Eurotrash, though he admits he only watched it to see breasts before the internet.

08 - DEATH
Nigel and Louie talk about death and musicians who have died so far in 2023.

07 - Threesomes
“A trio? Are they going to have enough instruments?” Louie

06 - GREAT songs that Louie will HATE
“Get your hate sack and get ready to splurge it everywhere’.

05 - Songs that make Nigel cry
In a rare admission of any kind of vulnerability, Nigel opens up about songs that make him cry.

04 - The Difficult Christmas Special
Louie struggles with music from 1898 and explains he has no memories before he was over five years old.

03 - The Difficult Third Episode
Nigel explains why ‘Nigel’ is such a great name despite more people being named ‘Satan’ last year.

02 - The Difficult Second Episode
Louie breaks his Rolling Stones record by knowing ‘more than no songs’ of The Beatles. Other topics include Nirvana, Blur, Cher, The Doors, how death can help your career, and music to listen to when you get dumped.

01 - The Debut Recording
Like so many debut records, Nigel and Louie hit record in the studio straight after getting back from the pub, with similarly questionable results.
Can Louie name a single Rolling Stones song? What on earth does 'A Horse with No Name' mean and is the singer a cowboy? Do words and names even matter?!
