🩸 THE PIKE COUNTY MASSACRE: AN UNTHINKABLE BETRAYAL

27/05/2026

📅 The Tragic Timeline
The Disappearance (Dec. 24, 2019)
Kevin Bacon, a 25-year-old hairstylist, left his home in Swartz Creek, MI, to meet a man he connected with on the dating app Grindr. He texted his roommate later that evening saying he wasn't sure when he’d return. When Kevin failed to show up for family brunch the next morning—which was entirely out of character—his frantic family reported him missing.

The Grisly Discovery (Dec. 28, 2019)
Detectives tracked Kevin's digital footprints, which led them directly to the home of 50-year-old Mark Latunski. Upon arrival, police conducted a welfare check and searched the premises. Inside the basement, they discovered Kevin's mutilated body hanging from the ceiling.

⚖️ The Investigation & The Confession
Police took Mark Latunski into custody, where he gave a full, chilling confession. Latunski admitted to:

*Stabbing Kevin in the back and slitting his throat.
Hanging the victim from his ankles.
Removing parts of the victim's body and cannibalizing them.
Making statements to police about intending to dehydrate the muscle for jerky and use bones for plant fertilizer.

🏛️ The Verdict & Sentencing
While Latunski's defense team initially sought an insanity defense, citing a history of mental health struggles, Latunski ultimately pleaded guilty.

In October 2022, Shiawassee County Judge Matthew Stewart ruled the killing as premeditated first-degree murder, stating: "The court finds that this is a crime of cold calculation. Kevin Bacon's death was Mark Latunski's design."

On December 15, 2022, the court handed down the maximum penalty under Michigan law:

Life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder.

A concurrent sentence for disinterment and mutilation of a dead body.

Aftermath 🕊️
The horrific nature of the crime made national headlines, but Kevin's loved ones urged the public to remember him as a vibrant, expressive person who was passionate about helping others, rather than focusing purely on the gruesome details of his death.
