The only thing that separates a small business from going bust is a constant supply of leads.
Really, think about it for a second. Every customer had a life span. So if every month you are losing a few of your clients (inevitable), and they are not constantly replaced by new ones, it's only a matter of time until you will have to close shop. It's just pure mathematics.
Look at current events. Millions of businesses had closed down and millions of other will close down in the following month, because the relayed on walk in clients to come in and get a hair cut, a manicure, a gym workout subscription, a meal... and once the foot traffic plummeted to zero because of lock down, these businesses collapsed.
Even businesses that do not depend on actual "foot traffic" found it harder to function. The streets are empty, people are online, and you can't just go to a conference, network, and get a bunch of new clients to your local accounting firm.
So what are the steps to getting a consistent flow of new leads and clients to your small/local business?
Step 1: Determine you hook.
What is is that you want to give clients so they will become clients? if you're a dentist this may be a teeth clean for only $39, or a dental checkup for $20. If you're a gym this could be a free session with a personal trainer... have no idea what to offer as a hook? go to Groupon.com and have a look at what businesses similar to your own offer in order to attract new clients.
Step 2: Set up a lead campaign using Facebook ads.
Now once you have a "hook" you know your clients will love, you need to let your potential clients know all about it. The world's fastest, most cost effective way of doing that is using Facebook ads.
You will meet all sorts of people who claim they have a magic button you can press and get leads to your business. Listen to them at your own peril. It's no coincidence Facebook ads are so widely used. It's because they get the results you are looking for (when done right).
Step 3: Collect leads and set appointments.
You now need to get the leads Facebook generates for you and call them up to set a meeting for them to redeem their "bribe". This can be done at your place of business or at their home, office or elsewhere, depending on your business. Don't forget to try to up sell them in that meeting! for example, if you are a beauty salon and your hook was a free nail polish, offer them a manicure to go along with that. The nail polish is free, but the manicure is fully priced of course :).
Step 4: Now make sure you turn them to long term clients.
Congrats! you have just added a good number of clients to your client base. But don't stop there! keep contacting them and following up again and again to make more appointments and charge more for your services. After all, you are running a business, right?
I can hear you say: "that's all great, but how am I supposed to run Facebook ads? I don't know anything about that".
