Just had the most brilliant weekend with Solomon's Knot at Bach-Archiv · Bachfest Leipzig 🇩🇪 Today we had around 800 in the audience…requiring two encores no less! 🎉

Having run career development workshops with Pegasus Opera Company over the last few years, I was delighted to see their artists in masterclass with Roderick Williams tonight. Roddy is just a joy to watch and his passion for text, music and character is infectious! Congratulations to everyone who sang tonight 🎉

Last week, I tried something different…without quite knowing what to expect! I’d heard about Tuning In Circle by recommendation, a way to practice listening more deeply, so was intrigued and signed up to the Zoom call.

Led by Laura Attridge, it was both grounding and powerful…and outside my comfort zone! It’s not for everyone, and that’s OK, but the more it reaches those it is for, the better. Competitions for singers, where to start? I relaunched my website to provide resources for singers, and we’ve put together a list of over 20 vocal competitions to get you started, including the likely frequency, location, application criteria, fees and prizes to expect from some of the major competitions. Go to the Further Resources page to access, alongside other useful information (https://www.stevephillipsmanagement.co.uk/resources/further-resources) If you can think of any resouces we could add, please subscribe to the mailing list on the website and let me know.

Are competitions really worth it though? Well, they give an opportunity to sing repertoire from roles not performed in full, gain public exposure more generally and get noticed by prominent casting directors, promoters and arts professionals. With the possibility of prize money, further performance opportunities and high-level recorded materials, sometimes with orchestra, it can be worth exploring what options are available.

There are many regional, national and international competitions, and we recommend keeping up to date with Audition Oracle, YAP Tracker and the World Federation of International Music Competitions.

Having connected with houses, promoters & agents for several years, I join Opera Europa’s Next Generation steering group, while continuing with OMAI as Communications Director & Trentino Music Festival as Associate Director - a young artist programme in the Italian Dolomites 🇮🇹 This summer we also launch Grasmere Song in the Lake District.
