Much-loved author Dame Jilly Cooper, celebrated for her Rutshire Chronicles series, has died aged 88.

Cooper's love of classical music formed the basis of her 1996 book 'Appassionata'. The author once told Gramophone Magazine about music and her creative process. "When I wrote my novel Appassionata," she said, "it was a logical step really because I used to have Radio 3 on the whole time – I’d be immersed in music. So when I introduced the conductor Rannaldini into my books, the music really started there."

Celebrated organist and choral director Martin Neary has died from complications of Parkinson's disease, at the age of 85.

As a chorister of the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace, he sang at the christening of Charles III in 1948 and the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953.

Neary served as Organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey for ten years from 1988, and led the music for the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. He also performed several times at the BBC Proms, most notably as part of the First Night of the Proms in 2004.

We pay tribute to Martin Neary's music-making on In Tune, from 5pm today.
