Ever wondered why it’s called Boxing Day?

No, it’s not about returning unwanted gifts… or fighting over the last tin of chocolates. 😅

Before Boxing Day became the unofficial national sport of ""eating leftovers in pyjamas"", or napping, and eyeing up the sales… It started as a Victorian tradition.

Families would prepare “Christmas boxes” filled with food, coins, and small gifts to give to household staff and those in need. A day created for kindness — not chaos!

Fast-forward to today and the boxes may have changed (Quality Street wrappers, anyone?), but the spirit of giving lives on.

And although GHP wasn’t around in those days, if we had been, there’s a good chance one or two of those boxes would’ve had a freshly printed book tucked inside.

Today marks the last working day of the year for us here at GHP. Our busy little publishing elves are finally closing up the workshop, popping on their OOOs, and hanging up their Christmas stockings with a well-earned glass of festive fizz! 🥂🎁✨

Thank you for an incredible year — for your stories, your creativity, and the passion you bring to every manuscript.

We’ll be fully back in action w/c 5th January 2026, and we can’t wait to see what fantastic new books we’ll be bringing to life in the New Year!

Today we celebrate the magical art of storytelling — the quick, the quirky, the heartfelt, and the delightfully ridiculous.

From festive misadventures to laugh-out-loud tales we absolutely didn’t expect… short stories remind us how much joy can fit into just a few pages (or a few chaotic paragraphs!).

At GHP, we’re lucky to work with so many authors who turn everyday moments into clever twists, warm giggles, or full-blown festive comedy.

Whether it’s elves running late, gingerbread rebellions, or a Christmas tree with too much attitude… we’ve seen (and loved!) it all. 🎄😂

So today, celebrate the storytellers — and the stories that make winter feel just a little more wonderful.

There’s nothing we love more than seeing an author’s imagination turn into something real — something they can hold, share, and celebrate with others.

Laura Turner, author of Tiny Turtle 32, has done exactly that. After dreaming up her wonderfully creative, interactive story (complete with pages little readers can draw on!), she came to GHP to help bring her vision to life. And now, her passion has taken her even further… all the way to festive book events and craft fairs where she’s been proudly showcasing her book.

We’re absolutely loving all the updates from authors getting out there this season — and Laura’s news truly made our day. Not only did she sell plenty of copies, but two were purchased by real-life princesses. You honestly can’t get more magical than that.

Laura, we’re so proud to be part of your journey — from the first spark of an idea to moments like these. Keep shining, and keep sharing Tiny Turtle’s world with readers everywhere. 💙🐢✨
