The All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Forum in Benue State, has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the passing of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
According to a report by ConfirmNews on Monday, August 18, 2025, the Benue State chapter of the APC described the news of Mama Lydia’s passing as devastating, noting that her departure is a huge loss not only to her immediate family but also to the larger political community.
In a separate statement signed by the Chairman of the Benue State APC Elders Forum, Chief Barnabas Gemade, and its Secretary, Rt. Hon. Barr. Emmanuel Jime, the elders said they received the news of Mama Lydia’s death with “profound grief and sorrow.”
They emphasized the irreplaceable role of a mother in nurturing values and character, noting that Prof. Yilwatda’s leadership has been strongly influenced by the solid foundation laid by his late mother.
“We deeply empathize with our National Chairman’s pain and acknowledge the difficulty of losing a loved one, especially a mother whose counsel and guidance remain invaluable throughout life,” the statement read.
The Elders Forum further encouraged Prof. Yilwatda to take solace in God’s sovereignty and remain steadfast in the face of this personal tragedy. They also prayed for divine strength for the family and the resources needed to give Mama Lydia a dignified burial.
Reaffirming their unwavering support for the APC National Chairman, the forum called on party members and Nigerians at large to join in praying for the peaceful repose of Mama Lydia’s soul and for God’s consolation upon the Yilwatda family.
