Kit was looking extra nice today so here’s a shot with some of our favourite flavours for a thuddy 60s tone — a combo of Ludwig and Rogers shells, dialled in just right on the Neve.
Tuned low, close-mic’d, and compressing the room a little.
Simple setup, big character.

Our Rogers Holiday kit looking cute this morning before setup 🥁✨
We’ve got a real soft spot for vintage drums — this one sounds as good as it looks. Between the Rogers, our ‘70s Ludwig, and a room that actually lets drums breathe, we’ve built a space where you can really play.

Great mics, proper pres, and kits that make you want to track all day.

After our recent Magnetic Resonator Piano post, we’ve had a lot of new faces here — so we thought we’d dig into the archives.

Piano purists may want to look away now.

These photos are from a session we recorded back in 2016 for Geometric Horsehair, with Virginia Anderson and Christopher Hobbs performing bass and Eb clarinet alongside our Bösendorfer — carefully prepared with screws, bolts and other objects (all gently placed on the strings, of course).

Recorded live to tape, using only our tile room echo chamber for reverb — no added processing. Swipe to hear an excerpt from these fantastic recordings.

Strings!

We record a massive range of ensembles here, and along with drums, strings always bring out the best in the space.
The room gives us full low end, natural mids, and a smooth top that never gets harsh.

Consistently rewarding work — and a reminder of the happy accidents we embraced in the sound of the space when we built the live room!

A few days into recording with the Magnetic Resonator Piano (MRP), fixed to our Bösendorfer.
We’ve hosted it a few times over the past 15 years, and it’s been remarkable to see how the instrument has developed — both in design and musical potential.
The MRP uses electromagnets to vibrate the strings directly, allowing for continuous tones, rich harmonics, and subtle resonances — all without touching the keys.
It opens up a whole other palette of sounds: ambient, otherworldly, and deeply expressive.
Always a rare and inspiring experience to work with this instrument.
