To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth and the installation of a memorial statue in the Inner Close, Wi******er Cathedral is holding a special service.

🎭The actors Joanna David, Susannah Harker, and Adrian Lukis – remembered for their roles in the BBC’s 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice – will give a dramatic reading of excerpts from this much-loved novel
📚 The eminent cultural historian Professor Michael Wheeler will explore Jane’s legacy for us today
🎼We will sing new words by the hymn writer Rosalind Brown, to a tune which Jane herself would have known.
🎵 Beautiful music from Wi******er Cathedral's Boy Choristers and Lay Clerks. The service will be enriched by two specially commissioned anthems, settings of Jane’s own prayer, as well as by Benjamin Britten’s joyful setting of Psalm 100.

"Secret Women", coming out this November!

Why do some women either have to, or choose to, live secret lives? We all have secrets, but what drives these women to hide part of themselves from others?

This book explores the hidden lives of a diverse group of women who operate with a degree of subterfuge, mystery or deliberate deception. From Freemasonry to fe**shism, from Wiccan followers to espionage, the reasons for secrecy are as different as the women themselves. Together, they represent a rich tapestry of female experience, sensitively recounted by the author as she delves into each woman’s secret.

This writing competition has uncovered new talent and helped to establish the careers of emerging writers by publishing and promoting their work. Previous prize winning novels have been adapted for radio and TV.

The competition is open to women and non-binary writers of any nationality from any country, aged 18 and over.
