Name That Riff starts as a friendly family quiz night… and turns into full-contact sport by the second bar. 🤘

Dad declares himself the reigning riff expert. The kids answer from a phone app before the intro has properly cleared its throat. Someone claims a win by humming it. Someone else whistles. Then there’s the person tapping the answer on the table like they’re calling in a very loud musical emergency.

The rules change mid-game:

“Five seconds only!”
“No guessing from the drum fill!”
“If you sing it, you’ve claimed it!”

The loser does the washing up. The winner gets to choose which album gets played loudest on Sunday morning. Naturally, this is treated like a major sporting trophy.

Best of all, everyone knows the intro… even when nobody can name the band. That’s family music knowledge for you: part memory, part instinct, part shameless confidence.

Who wins Name That Riff in your house, and what song is the unofficial tie-breaker? 🎸

Some songs arrive before you’re old enough to understand why they matter.

You hear them from the next room. From a parent’s old playlist. From a sibling who insists, “Wait for the chorus.”

Then one day, years later, someone younger in the family starts singing along. Completely unprompted, gloriously out of tune, and absolutely certain they own the song now.

That’s how music keeps moving. Not through rules. Not through tests. Through ordinary moments, shared loudly.

The best part isn’t passing down a favourite band. It’s watching a song become part of somebody else’s story.

Which song has quietly become a family song in your house? ❤️🎶

ROCK FAN TRANSLATOR REQUIRED 🤘

“Turn it down” = “I can hear the bass through the walls.”

“Have you seen my keys?” = “The tour bus leaves in five.”

“Dinner’s ready” = “The encore is over. Move.”

“Who left this cable here?” = “The road crew has been fired.”

And “I’m just going to play one song” still means a full album, two bonus tracks and somebody explaining why the live version is better.

Every rock household has its own language. Half family conversation, half backstage pass.

What phrase in your house needs translating into rock? 🎸

A ROCK TEE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT TO BE ICONIC.

A loose hem? Stitch it.
A tiny hole? Patch it.
A faded print? That’s not damage : that’s evidence.

The best clothes pick up a life of their own. They travel to gigs, survive late nights, get covered in festival dust, and come back ready for another chorus. Repairing a favourite piece isn’t pretending it’s new. It’s keeping the story in motion.

Because the most sustainable wardrobe is often the one you already love : worn, reworn, repaired and still loud.

What’s the oldest piece of clothing in your wardrobe that deserves one more encore?

Some covers don’t just honour the original : they claim it.

Our latest Dad Rock Merch blog deep dive looks at six rock versions that became the ones we reach for first:

1. Jimi Hendrix : “All Along the Watchtower”
Dylan wrote the storm. Hendrix turned it into lightning.

2. Joe Cocker : “With a Little Help from My Friends”
The Beatles made it warm. Cocker made it a full-body scream : especially at Woodstock.

3. Nirvana : “The Man Who Sold the World”
Bowie’s original was strange and sharp. Nirvana’s unplugged version feels haunted, raw and completely theirs.

4. Metallica : “Whiskey in the Jar”
A traditional Irish song, carried into rock history by Thin Lizzy, then given Metallica’s thunderous treatment.

5. Quiet Riot : “Cum On Feel the Noize”
Slade brought the swagger. Quiet Riot cranked it into an arena-sized anthem.

6. Guns N’ Roses : “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”
Dylan’s ballad becomes a sprawling, emotional hard-rock singalong.

That’s the magic of a great cover. It respects the source : then kicks open the door and brings something dangerous through.

Which cover version do you think became the definitive take?

That bass breakdown? It’s a spiritual experience. Sticky floors, loud amps, and the riff that hits you right in the chest: that’s where we live.

Meet the ‘Dad Rock Rules’ tee in gray. This isn’t just fabric; it’s a tribute to the riffs that raised us. Skull. Headphones. Flames. It’s pure, unadulterated attitude for the crate-diggers and the air-guitarists. No gatekeeping here: if you’re repping the music, you’re in the front row.

Our models are bringing that rebellious retro vibe to life. We designed this one because we’re tired of corporate polish. This is made by rock lovers, for rock lovers. One hand on the vinyl, the other grabbing the merch.

Life is too short to keep the good stuff to ourselves. Grab yours, turn it up, and let the neighbors know the classics never die.
