Lego Friends Beach. See how we transform the real world into an animated LEGO realm. A little girl is playing with her LEGO mini figures on a beach, when suddenly they burst into life-size versions, and LEGO sets crash into the world around her after a colossal, magical explosion.
We used Houdini’s fluid FX to create realistic water movements around the sailboat. Building the boat travel shot from multiple plates and camera moves was a fun challenge. We created separate plates for the island approach, the girl, and a CG camera to animate the boat and characters freely.
We rigged characters to move like real LEGO sets, adding subtle movements and facial expressions to bring emotion to their performances. Balancing the grading of the LEGO sets with the beach environment was delicate, but we maintained the authentic LEGO brick colours.
Throughout the process, we referenced the real LEGO set, lit in neutral light in the suite. These techniques enhanced the visual impact of the LEGO elements without compromising their authenticity.
