Meet the judges for News and Current Affairs! đź“°

Sam is an Emmy and BAFTA-nominated journalist who has negotiated with everyone from Buckingham Palace to The White House, Tesla to Facebook, most famously, securing the BBC Newsnight interview with (former) Prince Andrew. Sam’s book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews was released in 2022 and was optioned for a Netflix film “Scoop” which was released in 2024, with Sam as executive producer. Sam was played by Billie Piper with Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis.

Richard Frediani is the Executive Editor of BBC Breakfast and the BBC News at One. He has been a journalist for more than 35 years with most of his career at ITN and ITV News. His career highlights are winning two BAFTA Awards, but also changing perspectives on issues from motor neurone disease.

Jem Collins is the founder and director of Journo Resources, an award-winning start-up which helps young people break into and progress in the media industry. She is also a digital journalist and editor, primarily focusing on human rights, with her work featured in publications such as the i Paper, Metro.co.uk, The Sun, PinkNews, RightsInfo and more

Meet the judges for News and Current Affairs! đź“°

Richard Frediani is the Executive Editor of BBC Breakfast and the BBC News at One. He has been a journalist for more than 35 years with most of his career at ITN and ITV News. His career highlights are winning two BAFTA Awards, but also changing perspectives on issues from motor neurone disease.

A huge congratulations to all the nominees and stations. We’ve had so much positive feedback from our judges, and the standard of entries this year was incredibly high! You should all be seriously proud 👏

As mentioned during the Nomination Stream, the nominees for Broadcaster of the Year, On-Screen Talent, and Production Talent will be revealed at the awards ceremony… so the suspense isn’t over just yet 👀

NaSTA is hosting an event with BBC Media Operations, the team responsible for getting everything from Glastonbury, the Radio One Breakfast Show and News at Ten on the air. 📡

The event will take place on 5th November between 2pm - 6pm at New Broadcasting House in London, with a range of talks, demonstrations and tours and a networking session after the event.

Being a part of NaSTA gives you access to talks, workshops and networking events with those in the industry, plus a community of over 250 students and alumni.

You'll also be able to attend our annual awards and conference weekend in Loughborough next year! 🏆

Affiliation remains at ÂŁ50 for the year, but for new stations, we will waive the fee for your first year. We want more stations than ever to be a part of NaSTA and our wider community.
