The Eden House is a collaborative project, led by guitarist Steve Carey. It came about when Carey and Tony Pettitt, Fields of the Nephilim bassist were playing in goth-rock band NFD and needed an outlet for their own wider musical tastes, which included prog rock, trip hop and dub. Deciding to avoid having one lead singer, they sought out unique female vocalists to co-write with.
Julianne Regan of All About Eve had previously collaborated with Carey, and an invite was quickly accepted. Monica Richards, of US band Faith & the Muse, was another contact. Evi Vine was known to Tony and making a name in the London scene, as was French émigré Amandine Fradejas (née Ferrari).
Tony enlisted former Nephilim bandmates:- Paul Wright, Peter Yates, Alexander Wright and Simon Rippin all assisted the recording sessions. Violinist Bob Loveday, of Van Morrison & Penguin Café Orchestra, and drummer Bob Irwin, of Nick Lowe & Johnny Cash, were found at the Goldtop Studio downstairs at Jungle. Once the album was completed, for mastering Tony called Andy Jackson, the Nephilim producer & Pink Floyd engineer. Andy liked it so much he joined the band on second guitar, in time for their live debut and a live video.
The Eden House now reissue their acclaimed 2009 debut Smoke & Mirrors album as a remastered and expanded edition with six additional tracks, on 2xCD and 2xLP. It's out on July 4th; pre-order links are in the comments.
Smoke & Mirrors led to them becoming a touring band with Evi & Amandine, headlining festivals across the UK and Europe, often as an 8-piece. Over the years they’ve had many more releases including 3 albums and continued lineup changes. A new album The Starless Sea is almost complete and will be issued in the near future.
