London is falling behind the rest of the country when it comes to helping prison leavers into work, new figures from the London Assembly show.

Fewer than 1 in 5 people leaving prison find a job within their first six weeks — a gap raising serious questions about support for rehabilitation.

The report found that employers with experience of working with prison leavers highlighted that although negative stereotypes exist, they are not based on facts or experience.

Hina Bokhari, Chair of the London Assembly Economy, Culture and Skills Committee, told BBC Radio London prison leavers are an 'untapped' job market 'waiting for a second chance'
