For this week’s , we’re heading to the Cotswolds to visit Migration Studios — an independent residential recording complex internationally recognised for its exceptional design, rare analogue equipment and deeply inspiring creative setting. Set within a beautifully renovated farm, the site includes two world-class studios, a fully modernised five-bedroom Cotswold stone farmhouse, and its distinctive life-sized elephant sculptures.
Studio 1, The Grain Barn, is a beautiful recording space, designed to encourage experimentation, immersion and focus. Its warm pine-panelled control room blends a 1970s aesthetic with modern workflow, centred around a one-of-a-kind custom Glensound MX12/6 console. The expansive live room is flooded with natural light and shaped by a dramatic 5.5m cathedral ceiling, Cotswold stone walls and a smooth natural reverb.
Studio 2, The Log Store, is a large light-filled production room with a 60s-inspired feel, combining vintage and modern tools for artists wanting analogue character with acoustic flexibility. It features an Alice 1228 MKI console, rare Aurora Audio and Neve preamps, a Stamchild 670 stereo tube compressor, plus an extensive collection of synths, instruments and microphones. Studio 2 is currently available for larger writing camps with Studio 1.
Migration has hosted sessions for Joy Crookes, Pa Salieu, Isabella Summers (Florence + The Machine), Becky Hill, Joy Anonymous, Sainté and Wasia Project, and was home to the recording of Elbow’s Audio Vertigo, which debuted at No.1 in the Official UK Charts.
As Guy Garvey put it: “They just don’t build them like this anymore! Migration engenders gentle creative introspection and is responsible for some of the happiest recording experiences in my 30 years as a recording artist.”
Founded by creative conservationist Ruth Ganesh and Dicky — the multi-award-winning composer, producer and artist behind Normal Ltd. — Migration was conceived as both a world-class creative space and a vehicle for positive environmental impact, supporting The Great Elephant Migration and wildlife conservation worldwide.
