According to the annual economic report by UK Music (This Is Music 2024), the UK music industry hit a record value of £7.6 billion in 2023, driven by major live tours and performances from stars such as Elton John, Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran.

However, the struggle remains for grassroots venues, with a devastating 125 forced closures in 2023.

Calls for better support, including a ticket levy on large events, have emerged to protect smaller venues and talent. Despite these successes, UK Music’s CEO has warned of ongoing risks, such as global competition and financial pressures, that could affect future growth for the UK economy.

What do you think? Should there be a ticket levy in place at larger events? Should the industry be doing more to protect grassroots venues? Comment below 🔽

90% of UK Nightlife Venues in crisis as costs continue to rise 📉

A new survey by the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) reveals that 90% of UK nightlife venues are struggling with "unmanageable costs" following the recent Autumn Budget announcement. The survey, which included responses from 500 NTIA members, shows that the vast majority are experiencing the devastating financial impact, with 40% fearing they could be forced to close in the next six months unless additional support is provided.

From skyrocketing energy prices to inflation pushing up supply costs, many of our favourite spots are finding it harder and harder to keep their doors open.

Nightlife isn’t just about going out—it’s about culture, community, and supporting the local economy. These venues are essential to the vibrancy of our cities, and if we don’t act, we could lose some of the best spots for good.

75% of venues are expecting annual costs to rise by an additional £30,000, with some estimating the increase could reach as high as £80,000. Unsurprisingly, 92% of businesses are now considering staff cuts, which could affect over 2 million jobs across the UK.

Are you worried about the UK nightlife scene? How can we protect our nightlife for the future? Drop your thoughts in the comments below! ⬇️

UK CLUBBING COULD BE 'EXTINCT' BY 2029 👻

A recent report from the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) has sent shockwaves through the UK’s vibrant nightlife scene. If current trends continue, we could see a dramatic decline in nightclubs, with many potentially closing their doors by 2029.

The new figures have revealed that 37% of all clubs across the country have permanently shut since March 2020 – an average of 3 clubs a week and 150 per year. If this trend continues, all spaces in the UK will have closed their doors by December 31st 2029.

The study highlights several alarming factors contributing to this potential crisis. Rising operational costs, stricter regulations, and the ongoing impact of the pandemic have created a perfect storm for these beloved venues.

Nightclubs have always been more than just places to dance; they’re cultural hubs, supporting local talent, fostering community, and providing unforgettable experiences.

With more venues facing the threat of closure, it's crucial to rally together and support our local nightlife. Whether it’s attending events, advocating for policy changes, or simply sharing your favourite memories, every little bit helps! ❤️

When was the last time you went to a club? How do you can we ensure our club culture thrives? Share your thoughts below! 👇✨
