We are demanding that the government treats Gurkhas fairly and pays them the same pension as other British veterans of the same rank and service. Many Gurkhas joined the Queen’s Gurkha Army believing their pension would sustain them and their families but sadly this has not been the case.

Karanbahadur Rana VC (21 December 1898 – 25 July 1973) was a Nepalese Gurkha recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

On 9 April 1917, the British XXI Corps was on the coastal sector of Palestine just north of Jaffa with the 75th Division on the right of the corps. The British planned an operation which in several stages would capture Tulkarm. The 75th Division launched a preliminary attack at 0510 hours on 9 April and met fierce resistance. On 10 April, in the fighting at El Kefr, Palestine, Rifleman Karanbahadur Rana, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Queen Alexandra's Own Gurkha Rifles, 75th Division, was awarded the Victoria Cross for most conspicuous bravery. The citation published on 21 June 1918 stated:

For most conspicuous bravery, resource in action under adverse conditions, and utter contempt for danger.During an attack, he, with a few other men, succeeded under intense fire, in creeping forward with a Lewis gun in order to engage an enemy machine gun which had caused severe casualties to officers and other ranks who had attempted to put it out of action. No. 1 of the Lewis gun opened fire, and was shot immediately. Without a moment's hesitation Rifleman Karanbahadur pushed the dead man off the gun, and in spite of bombs thrown at him and heavy fire from both flanks, he opened fire and knocked out the enemy machine-gun crew; then, switching his fire on to the enemy bombers and riflemen in front of him, he silenced their fire. He kept his gun in action and showed the greatest coolness in removing defects which on two occasions prevented the gun from firing. During the remainder of the day he did magnificent work, and when a withdrawal was ordered he assisted with covering fire until the enemy were close on him. He displayed throughout a very high standard of valour and devotion to duty.:

The unit, date and place of VC actions were not gazetted from 1916 until 11 November 1918. These details were gazetted on 31 March 1919 when Karanbahadur Rana was listed with the '2/3rd Q.A.O. Gurkha Rif.’, the date ‘10.4.18’ and place ‘El Kefr’. The gazette incorrectly stated El Kefr was in Egypt. It is in Palestine. In silencing the enemy machine-gun, Karanbahadur Rana, enabled his company commander, Lieutenant Frederick Barter, who had been lying within 30 yards of the machine gun for five and a half hours to withdraw. As a company sergeant-major with The Royal Welch Fusiliers, Lieutenant Barter had been awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous bravery at Festubert, France, on 16 May 1915.

Yesterday, Labour Shadow Defence Minister Stephen Morgan MP met Gurkha Satyagraha campaigners over pension inequality.

He said: "No veteran of the British Army should be forced to hunger strike to be heard by Ministers. Gurkhas deserve action by Government, and they deserve it now."

I’m doing very well for myself but just because I’m doing fine doesn’t mean I should ignore what’s happening. Let’s make some effort for those who deserve more. Don’t forget to put yourself in their shoes and you will understand. 20 sec is all it takes to sign the petition.

Our veterans gave up everything and many sacrificed their lives to save the United Kingdom, its people and the mighty reputation of the . I am sure, all serving Gurkhas past, present and future will live up to this reputation.

These veterans left everything behind, many were widowed, many kids grew up without a father and family. I’m picking up the campaign on equal rights and equal pensions for the Gurkhas.

To all my followers, my brothers and sisters in the , , , , , , , , and every Gurkha who is or has served – it only takes 20 seconds to complete this petition and ask the UK Government to urgently look again at Gurkha pensions.

20 seconds of your time can make a huge difference. We have never left your side during the toughest hours, we have fought alongside you. Those who have been operating on the ground will understand what I mean by fighting alongside and never leaving anyone behind. I’m calling for help. Let’s solve this case once for all.

Letter from Mark Lancaster to the MP regarding package for Gurkhas and package agreed to Nepal Government in reference to Embassy of Nepal, London

१. भूतपूर्व गोर्खा सैनिकहरुलाई सन २०१६ को १ जनवरी देखि नै ३४ प्रतिशतसम्मका दरले पेन्सन वृद्धि गरी गुडविल प्याकेजका रुपमा यो वृद्धि एकमुष्ठ उपलब्ध गराउन ४६ मिलियन पाउण्ड नेपाली ६ अर्ब ७० करोड व्यवस्था गरिएको।

२. सन् २०१९ को १ अप्रिलदेखि ३४ प्रतिशतसम्मको पेन्सन वृद्धिको अलवा नेपालको मुद्रास्फीतिअनुसार थप ३.७ प्रतिशत वृद्धि हुने र सोको लागि प्रतिवर्ष १५ मिलियन पाउण्ड (नेपाली २ अर्ब २५ करोड) छुट्याइएको।

३. अहिलेको पेन्सन वृद्धिले सबैभन्दा कम पेन्सन पाउने भूतपूर्व गोर्खाले समेत वार्षिक ७ लाख ३० हजार रुपैयाँ पाउने।

४. भूतपूर्व गोर्खा सैनिक र उनीहरुका परिवार लगायतलाई सहज तवरले औषधोपचारको व्यवस्था गर्न १० वर्षको अवधिमा नेपालका पाँच वटा शहरहरु दमक, धरान, पोखरा, बुटवल र काठमाडौंमा स्वास्थ्य केन्द्र स्थापना गर्ने र सो प्रयोजनको लागि थप २५ मिलियन पाउण्ड अर्थात् ३ अर्ब ६० करोड रुपैयाँ व्यवस्था गरिएको।

५. यसअघि गोर्खा ब्रिगेडमा ४ वर्षभन्दा कम अवधि सेवा गरी स्वास्थ्यको कारणले नेपाल फर्केकाहरुलाई समेत बेलायतमा आई बसोबास गर्न सक्ने व्यवस्थाको लागि आवश्यक कार्य अघि बढाइने बताइएको।

६. ८० वर्ष पुगेका भूतपूर्व गोर्खालाई पेन्सनमा विशेष वृद्धि गरिने।

७. यसअघि गोर्खा पेन्सनबापतको रकम भारतको बैंक हुँदै नेपाल पठाउने व्यवस्था भएकोमा अबदेखि सीधै नेपालका बैंकिङ सेवामार्फत पेन्सन रकम पठाइने व्यवस्था घोषणा गरिएको।

भूतपूर्व गोर्खाहरु बेलायतमा स्थायी बसोबासलगायत सुविधा ब्रिटिस सरकारले यसअघि पनि व्यवस्था गरेकोमा दुई देशका सरकार र भूतपूर्व गोर्खाका प्रतिनिधिसँग वार्ता गरेर पेन्सन वृद्धि सहितको बृहत् गोर्खा प्याकेज घोषणा भएको यो पहिलो पटक हो ।
