Demonstrators take to streets for the ‘Great Grimsby Protest’

By Gi Grimsby News - 6 October 2025.

Scores of protestors gathered in Grimsby town centre today to voice their concerns about the government’s plans to introduce digital ID cards, as well as to express their dissatisfaction with levels of immigration in the UK and the current Labour Government.

Organiser John Drewitt told Gi Grimsby News that local people have “had enough”, with the event being just the first in a series of “The Great Grimsby Protest” events planned. Another is expected to take place at a different location in the town before the end of the month. He explained that those involved in the movement are calling for major changes, including a new general election.

Participants young and old carried Union Jacks and St George’s Cross flags as they gathered at St James Square before marching to the Town Hall. Around sixty people attended the demonstration, which remained peaceful throughout.

A small number of police officers were present to offer support, with Humberside Police stating they were “in attendance in order to allow people to go about their lawful business and to protect the right of individuals to take part and exercise their right to peaceful protest.”

Investigation underway after roof fire in Cleethorpes.

By Kiera Cook - 2 October 2025.

Police have launched an investigation following a roof fire at the former police station in Cleethorpes.

Emergency services were called to Princes Road shortly after 8.30pm on Wednesday 1 October. The site, which is currently subject to redevelopment plans into housing, has faced numerous objections over potential flood risk.

When crews arrived, the blaze had already burned out. A search of the area was carried out, and no injuries were reported.

An investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances, and officers are appealing for information.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Enquiries remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances around the report, and we would ask anyone with any information, or CCTV from around the area to please contact us via our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 418 of 1 October. Alternatively, you can report anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
