A'IBOM GOVT TO PARTNER FG FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF PETROLEUM DEPOT
..as Gov Eno inaugurates Petroleum Monitoring Committee, Board of Security Trust Fund

Akwa Ibom State Government is ready to partner relevant Federal agencies for the establishment of petroleum depot in the state.

This was made known by the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno who also noted that the partnership would seek to moderate landing cost and ensure easy supply of petroleum products for the people.

Governor Eno who was speaking during the inauguration of the State's Petroleum Monitoring Committee and the State Security Trust Fund Board, at the State Executive Council chambers, Government House, Uyo, noted that members of the two bodies have immense work ahead.

Governor Eno, in his submission, highlighted the huge contributions of Akwa Ibom State to the production capacity of Nigeria's petroleum and gas industry, stressing the necessity of locating a depot in the state to avail the people the privilege of commensurate access to the products.

Clarifying the mandate of the Petroleum Monitoring Committee, the Governor stated that the committee is saddled with the responsibility of working with petroleum marketers to ensure smooth loading and distribution of petroleum products in the State, allign pump prices with national figures and elimination of sharp practices that may sabotage the economy of the state or undermine the well-being of the people.

In his words, "Your job is direct and simple: You are to work with petroleum marketers to ensure that the loading and distribution of petroleum products in our State are done without causing pain and discomfort to our people. That the pump price of fuel is in line with what obtains elsewhere; that petroleum products are not hoarded for price gouging purposes. You must ensure that any gas or petrol station that engages in such acts are penalized to the fullest extent of the law.

PDP concludes campaign tour in Eket Local Government Area
...As Akaninyene Tommey campaign team storm Eket Ward 3 Central....

The tour of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the fourteenth wards in Eket Local Government Area has been concluded as the campaign train storm Eket Ward 3 Central to solicited support for Akaninyene Tommey and the councillorship candidate of ward 3 Central

It coming after weeks of rigorous campaigns to the different wards in the area.

The ward to ward campaign for the re-election of Akaninyene Tommey today ended up at Eket ward 3 Central as the people thronged out in large numbers to receive the party’s standard bearer, Mr. Akaninyene Tommey and his running mate, Mrs . Inyang Akpawan

The show of support and acceptability is massive at the ward center of Eket Ward 3 Central, as indigenes filled the venue of the campaign rally in preparation to vote for PDP massively on the 5 October .

Tragedy struck on 1st October, 2024, as a devastating fire outbreak gutted two bungalows and damaged parts of a third flat in the affected buildings leaving families including 2 tenants homeless at, no. 33 Inam Street off Edohoeket, Eket Local Government.

According to a family member Mr. Uwakmfon Moses, the inferno which occurred about 8:00pm is attributed to a high-voltage power supply from Power Holding (NEPA)

"I was returning home and only to meet the sad situation of the razing fire. The neighbouring houses are affected with the high-voltage power supply, blowing chargers, bulbs and other items at home", Mr Moses lamented.

Another eyewitnesses reported that, "we noticed flames engulfing the building. When we came close the entire place was burning. The high-voltage also destroyed things in our shop".

Residents and neighbours who battled to extinguish the fire lamented frustration and the malfunctioning of the Fire Service station in Eket.

"We have turned to Fire Service just to quench the fire from affecting the third building. The other two buildings are gone, totally destroyed".

Deaconess Mrs. Glory Akpan Okon Moses, wife of the buildings' owner struggling to come to terms with their loss, wailed over the situation and her husband's return to see the ruins.

The Press learnt that one of the tenants Mrs. Best Bright, who is working on her own building and to relocate lost all her properties.

Another tenant with two kids were came out safe. No life lost, no casualties.

In a show of solidarity, the PDP Chairmanship Candidate, Mr. Akaniyene Tommey, visited the victims to commiserate over the sad situation.

He was accompanied by the Chapter Chairman of PDP, Hon. Uso Hanson, Mr. Etukudo Ndueso, Barr. Richard Iyaha, Hon. Kingsley Tommey, Councillorship candidate, Lady Mercy Ekpe.
