Nari Choi
She Sat, She Spoke, She Stayed - “Now It’s Your Turn to Sit”, 2025
Nari Choi reimagines Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper as a symbolic gathering of twelve real women from various times, cultures, and backgrounds. Each figure—Malala Yousafzai, Susan B. Anthony, Marie Curie, Han Kang, Rosa Parks, Mahsa Amini, Marina Abramović, Oprah Winfrey, Faith Ringgold, Valentina Tereshkova, Nadia Murad, and Alison Lapper—held her ground and took action against oppression. Together, they represent diverse fields such as science, art, politics, human rights, literature, and media.

Choi presents these women not as distant icons, but as individuals who lived with conviction. The message is clear: a hero is not someone extraordinary, but someone who remains present and true in their own place. The structure of the work is not a simple representation but a participatory composition. As suggested by the title Now It’s Your Turn to Sit, the artist invites us to the table. Those living today are called to take action, building on the courage of the women who came before us.

This exhibition continues to spotlight stories of resilience, self-reliance, and renewal

Yong Eun (May) Kwon, Pie in the Sky, 2025

Through drawing and painting, Kwon captures quiet everyday moments—warm meals, soft afternoons, memories like pages from a diary. She imagines these intimate scenes as ones she might share with North Korean escapees. What feels ordinary to one can appear distant and dreamlike to another.

Livia Turco, Saint Sebastian (From the series: Fortitude), 2025

Turco reinterprets the icon of Saint Sebastian
through a female lens, visualizing endurance and inner strength.

Her sculpture reflects the silent resilience of women worldwide—those who persist through pain with dignity and defiance.

Mia Enell, Red Yarn, 2023

In Red Yarn, Enell revisits
the childhood game of string figures.

The red thread, stretched between hands,
becomes a symbol of memory, tension, and emotional complexity—reminding us how play can carry both connection and weight.

UNSEEN : 14 Artists on Resilience and Rights of Women in North Korea

SAVE THE DATE Sept 19th 6-9pm

Exhibition also shines a light on Self-reliance and renewal:

Min Sang Cho’s Still I Rise
featuring pedal-powered birds inviting you to take flight. Younghi Kang’s Beating Wings exhibit forceful brushstrokes that reflect years of meditative practice. Tracy Weiman’s Princess Bari revives forgotten 19th-century flowers and chandeliers, reimagining North Korean women as a mythic guide between life and death.
