It's a job and a passion rather than a hobby, so I take it seriously while also having great fun with it. Most popular music was originally made to be heard on vinyl; it sounds warmer and, in my view, better that way, so I only DJ with vinyl, nothing else. Although vinyl has made a big comeback, the music soundbites most easily available on vinyl aren't new - it's generally 45rpm singles from the
late 1950s to the early 1990s, so I play mostly (but not entirely) retro, nostalgic sounds on '45'. I specialise in early reggae & related sounds (such as ska, 2-tone era & pop reggae), & hit Motown, Soul & Club Classics, Pop and a bit of Rock. I usually spin tunes at themed events such as Reggae / Ska or Motown / Soul, and a new mainstream night, 'Strictly Vinyl' is also becoming increasingly popular, as it offers well known tunes with something for just about everyone. I also DJ special, themed events that might feature punters getting dressed up, such as Grease (as in the movie) nights, Beach Parties, and Decade nights, from the 60's through to the 90's.
