"We actually met in Manchester, we were making a record with the Manchester Collective, a fantastic contemporary ensemble, and Beibei and I met in the lunch break and got on really well - our love of sound and being different places around the world and how to connect through that - and I had a residency at Kings Place in 2023 and we didn't really know each other but I said do you want to bring all your stuff and I'll bring mine and we'll just turn up and improvise the whole night...it was one my favourite gigs I have ever done"
On release day for 'The Endless Dance' Hannah and Beibei were interviewed by Anita Rani on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour. Listen again here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002wkw3

Lament of McCrimmon / Song of the Banshee (live) is taken from Sheila Chandra’s album ‘Echo’.

Drawn to the drone-like elements of the Irish and the Scots folk tradition Chandra melds them with South Asian techniques on Lament of McCrimmon / Song of the Banshee, which became a gateway into her work with folk music.

“The track is from ‘Roots and Wings’ which is the album previous to my Real World Records trilogy. Because it's voice and drone based it's kind of a precursor, a prequel track if you like. I used to do it a lot live so you are kind of getting a feel from how I got into being able to work through, well basically switching vocal traditions on the turn of a dime.”

We’re pleased to announce the signing of , one of Mali’s most exciting new talents. His single ‘Kanubaw’ is out today on all platforms, and his first UK tour begins tomorrow.

Born Siaka Traoré in Sikasso and raised in a family of master musicians — his father is balafon legend Neba Solo — Pcha is part of a new generation redefining the sound of Mali. From his base in Bamako, he takes the balafon somewhere altogether new, fusing its hypnotic melodies with amapiano log drums, afrobeats and bass-heavy electronics.

On ‘Kanubaw’, Pcha announces himself with intent. “I have come,” runs the song’s insistent refrain: “I have come for my fans.” Across the track he invokes the blessings of his parents and elders, the courage he has found through hard work, and an unshakeable belief in his own music.

Introducing our new project… amplified@rw

We’re offering unsigned and grassroots artists from across the South West the chance to record their EP in our studios, fully funded, thanks to Arts Council England and Real World.

4-6 acts will spend 3-4 days with our in-house engineers across the Big Room, Wood Room and Red Room, recording an EP of their own songs, fully mixed and mastered by Real World engineers. They’ll also get mentoring from industry professionals on publishing, rights and release strategy, and the chance to perform live to an audience of record labels and A&R at an exclusive showcase at Real World.

No polished demo needed to apply – a voice note, a phone video, whatever shows us who you are.

If you’re based in the South West, unsigned, and ready to make something special, we want to hear from you. Applications close at 11:59pm on 9th September.

Full details and the link to apply are in our bio.

Happy release day to and on their exquisite new album Donn/Dubh, out today on and received with wonderful reviews from The Guardian and NPR Music:

“British folk giants startlingly transform sacred histories”
★★★★★ Folk album of the month

“Sood and Morrison are themselves brown and black, and they’re tracing the way that their personal roots intersect with Scottish music. And at times, it can be very ambient, at times it can be very haunting, and almost always it can be so beautiful.”

Real World Records is delighted to announce the release of Echo, a collection of live performances by Sheila Chandra. Chandra is a trail-blazing vocalist and music pioneer, but a shy and infrequent live performer in her time.
Aware that many of her fans were disappointed never to have seen her in concert, Chandra has put together this collection of recordings so we can all remember what her breathtaking virtuoso solo voice performances were like.
Echo is released on 25 September on LP and digital and a first track Ever So Lonely / Eyes / Ocean is available to hear now.
Sheila has hand-signed a limited number of postcards for those who pre-order the LP from the RW Store or Bandcamp.

This record was so fun to make so it made sense to have the word “dance” in the title, because it felt like a kind of game. There was all this to-and-fro, this passage of love and loss, and how each year the same thing happens all over again. I think “endless” can be interpreted in different way, but it felt to us that it was a playful, fun thing.

Hannah Peel and Beibei Wang talk Best Fit through the key themes and inspirations behind The Endless Dance.
