There's one part of the country where some Labour sources believe the scale of the electoral threat in May is going underappreciated: London.

In the city's north-east, a "Green belt” is emerging at the expense of Keir Starmer's party, warned one Labour source, while Hackney and Islington — home to many Labour MPs — are also in Zack Polanski's sights.

Labour is threatened on other fronts, including Reform UK and the Liberal Democrats.

Report Noah Vickers and Matilda Martin.

Labour is steeling itself for bruising results nationwide at the May local elections. However, there's one part of the country where party sources ...

Plaid Cymru is on course to win highly anticipated Welsh elections in May.

Led by former BBC journalist, Rhun ap Iorwerth, the pro-independence party looks set to turn politics in Wales on its head in 2026.

The party plans a London media blitz in the run-up to the May elections, with a source telling PoliticsHome's Tom Scotson: "We are making sure journalists in Westminster understand the scale of the change that could be coming."

But who is Plaid?

Plaid Cymru are on course to win the next set of Welsh elections in May, most likely with the help of Labour support. But who are they, and what ar...

As the May elections approach, there is concern that the proliferation of AI deepfakes poses a threat to British democracy that hasn't been seen before.

MPs like Emily Darlington and George Freeman say more must be done to combat misinformation, and are planning to amend the upcoming Elections Bill to better protect politics and politicians from fake information generated online.

“At the moment, MPs have no protection over deepfakes being created of them," Darlington told PolHome's Zoë Crowther.

With voters heading to the polls in May for elections in England, Scotland and Wales, a cross-party group of MPs is quietly organising to tackle th...

Can government persuade the public to get behind digital ID in 2026?

Ministers plan to travel the country and talk to voters directly about the policy as part of a major consultation, after polling conducted after Keir Starmer announced the plans showed a sharp fall in support.

The Tony Blair Institute argues that messaging should focus on how digital ID could make the lives of everyday people easier.

At the same time, government must combat misinformation and disinformation about the policy, with one Labour MP lamenting a discussion “full of conspiracy theory stuff", writes PolHome's Matilda Martin.

The government faces what one Labour MP described as a “ticking time bomb” in its bid to persuade the public to get behind its digital ID policy ne...

Will major benefits reform happen in 2026?

Keir Starmer has signaled that he will have another go at tightening welfare rules after a major backbench rebellion forced him to back down earlier this year.

The PM's decision to move Pat McFadden to DWP was seen as foreshadowing a renewed push to reform the welfare system, while government has launched consultations following criticism that it failed to engage with charities and MPs.

However, many Labour MPs say they are prepared to rebel again if they feel reforms punish vulnerable people.

“[No 10] are going to have to hope that they can navigate this through, but they are in a really weak place," one MP told PolHome's Harriet Symonds.

SEND is shaping up to be one of the biggest challenges for the Labour government in 2026,

Long-awaited reforms are expected to be published early in the new year, amid widespread agreement that the current system is not sustainable.

However, the government faces the prospect of a backbench revolt if changes are seen by Labour MPs to mean less support for children, writes PolHome's Matilda Martin.

How to solve the deepening crisis in the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) system is a question that has bedevilled successive gove...
