I haven't been here for a while, because I haven't written a blog since *cough* 2018. I didn't think the inspiration to change that would come from a teen graphic-novel-turned-Netflix series, but it made me feel so much that I needed to write it down. Enjoy, and let me know if you're also obsessed ♥️

I’m straight. I think. In honesty Netflix teen romcom Heartstopper, created from Alice Oseman’s graphic novel, has made me question this. But. Annoyingly. I really do like men (and watching gay men…

When I wrote my first blog on depression, it was supposed to be a one-off. But after two winters in a row that were basically write-offs, this year I decided to face up to the seasonal pattern and be ready for it. So, using the experience I wish I didn't have plus a bit of research, here is what I'm (really) hoping is the final part of the trilogy: my winter defence strategy.

Because it is RUBBISH outside and if you're feeling anywhere from ‘meh’ to depressed, it might help to know that there is a lot of science behind why, plus a lot you can do to help.

Wtf happened? It was the middle of a heatwave, we sweated through our commutes and our pants, and my Uber driver’s chat was about how he’d ordered an air con unit off Gumtree at 3am, then immediate…

And he calls me eloquent - this is one of the most beautiful responses to my blog I've ever received. Thanks for making my week, Mike.

"As long as I'm intellectually working at this and come across well-written stories of experience like yours, I'll find some solace."

Somehow, I missed this milestone. But I'm now feeling quite proud and slightly dumbstruck that my blog site's now had over 50,000 views.

To the fans and sharers who made that bonkers number possible - THANK YOU!

Really chuffed that my article is now up on Thought Catalog! It's a pretty massive platform so it should get it to more people who need it. Amazing!

Depression has a cunning way of showing you all the bad in the world, hiding all the good, and then portraying this biased view as the ‘true’ version.

Lovely new comment today, thank you Kay!

I've had an idea. So I'm 30 this year (28th December, don't forget), and I wanted a kinda "before I'm 30..." thing. My blog site has just over 27,000 total views. Before I'm 30... I want to hit 30,000. To be honest, I'm a bit blown away I'm anywhere near 30,000. From the depths of my gushy heart, thank you for all the love for my little blog project and please keep reading and sharing it.

Talking of which, 'Tonga Part Three: Bikes and B***y Traps' is up (link in comments) - I laughed my head off writing it so it should at least raise a giggle. Enjoy, lovely people.

Swimming with whales, vomming into the Pacific, and one million fish in a cave.
New blog, enjoy!

After a couple of interesting days in Tonga’s capital, Tongatapu (see Tonga part one), we’d arrived at a hideously early hour to the domestic airport. We were awaiting our flight to Vavaʻu, where w…

Have you ever, at an airport, been asked to *personally* stand on the scales at the check-in desk? When my friend Rose and I visited Tonga last October, that is exactly what happened. That and a hundred other funny enounters that kept us in hysterics for three days straight.

Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the Pacific island of Tonga.

I didn’t know what I was doing. In a bid to find a Pacific island paradise for my Kiwi friend and I to chill outus maximus, I was conducting late night Google image searches of the various op…

This time last year, I was frantically trying to finish my debut blog post before the end of Mental Health Awareness Week. (I didn't.) Talking about depression is the most powerful weapon against it & I maintain that it's one of the best things I ever did. Here's the condensed version of my article & reflection on it that I did for the Huffington Post. To anyone having a s**t time of it right now, I promise it gets better.

My happy, hopeful self was replaced by a version that was hollowed-out. No one is immune from depression. Not even hopelessly romantic optimists (*waves frantically*). I spent six months dragging myself through the unbearably long days, pasting on the closest thing to a smile that I could remember.

Happy 30th birthday to the amazing, beautiful, go-getting, adventurous, hilarious, endlessly supportive, ludicrously fun, absolute-bloody-delight of a friend that is Emily McGovern!

This one's for you ###

Happy 30th birthday, Emily McGovern. This one’s for you. Your own blog post. And seeing as I’ve got a measly total of six on my site, my blog is now officially 16.67% about you. Which is fitting, b…
