Morning!

Hope you had a lovely weekend? Just popping up to share a few more details about Elevate and Evolve.

I’ve been totally blown away by the response so far… very exciting!

On this morning’s blog post I’m talking all about why you need to evolve on purpose… especially in the top job!

The stats around CEO success rates are pretty sobering… they’re low… anywhere between 50 and 70% failure rate and only an estimated 14% of CEOs with the skills they need.

But leadership development at this level doesn’t need to be complicated, it needs to be targeted and very much aligned to the individual and their unique business challenges.

That’s what Elevate and Evolve is all about.

‘I’m only learning when I’m laughing’

One of my workshop attendees objectives this morning was to laugh a lot…because he learns best when he’s having fun 🤗

Apparently I nailed it 👊

But I had lots of help… especially in the form of this lovely poem that was written especially for him as part of one of the breakouts. (Look how happy he was with it)

When I was 17 I got suspended from school… it was three days before I started my A-levels.

My punishment? To write an essay on ‘Freedom vs Responsibility’

I loved it! It was the most interesting essay I’d written in my whole school career.

My conclusion: freedom is not freedom without responsibility… otherwise what is that freedom from? Responsibility, by the same token, only means something because you’re choosing it over freedom.

It all popped into my head this evening… after a beautiful summer swim in the river.

Because this week, with the weather forecast as it is… all I really wanted to do in that moment was cancel everything and stay sunbathing in that same spot for the rest of the week ☀️

But that thought is only really so delicious because it would be choosing indulge that same rebellious child that got in trouble all those years ago.

I’ve come to learn though that sometimes choosing freedom over responsibility makes it all a touch empty anyway.

So I’ll be choosing balance instead. I’ll savour the immense freedom (and joy) my job gives me anyway and honour my commitments.

I’ll also be knocking off early every day to take the kids to the river!

How do you feel when you have to say no to something?

Selfish? Rude? As though you’re letting people down?

We’re programmed to say yes to things.

To try to help.

To want to achieve.

We think we ‘should’

But it’s these internal beliefs that prevent us from setting clear boundaries.
