it is a high-performance racing car that gained fame through its appearance in various racing video games, most notably in "Need for Speed: Most Wanted." It was a modified version of the BMW M3 (E46) designed specifically for motorsport competitions. The M3 GTR featured a potent V8 engine, aggressive aerodynamics, and a distinctive livery.

In the real world, the M3 GTR made its mark in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in the early 2000s. The car had notable success, but due to homologation requirements, BMW had to produce a limited number of street-legal versions to meet racing regulations.
