US gov’t gives Indonesian shrimp exporters 28 days to certify shipments as radiation-free
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given all Indonesian shrimp exporters in the country's two main production regions 28 days to meet its new import certification requirements to enter the market, after a product from one company was found with very low traces of the radioactive isotope Cesium-137 in August.
The FDA announced Oct. 3 that -- effective Oct. 31, 2025 -- the federal agency will require import certification for shrimp and spices from certain regions of Indonesia, based on the risk of potential contamination of the food with Cs-137.
