2026 Vesta Scullers Head – View from the Towpath

The 68th edition of Vesta Scullers Head has opened the 2026/27 season in true fashion. This year, the number of entries broke into the 600s, showcasing the ever-increasing growth and popularity of rowing across all ages and abilities. George Bourne of Leander came, saw, and conquered, winning his first Scullers Head title and completing what he is referring to as the ‘Tideway Grand Slam’, having claimed victories in the Boat Race, Head of the River, Fours Head, Pairs Head, the Wingfield Sculls and now Scullers Head....

Netflix’s new eight-part series Crew Girl feels like a rare opportunity to finally introduce rowing to a wider audience, presented from the perspective of a young female athlete.

It has all the ingredients for a story about women in sport, teamwork, ambition and the complicated relationship that rowing has with privilege.

Chester Long Distance Sculls 2026 – Preview

Chester Long Distance Sculls is a gruelling race. 5k, sculls only, far too early in the season to be fully fit. Over the years, it’s thrown up some great racing and some surprising results. But the draw this year was a bit of a bombshell for the club scullers coming from across the North West. There aren't many long stretches on the Thames, so perhaps it's unsurprising that Leander Club is bringing its scullers here to begin their preparations for the Boston trials in November....
