Over the past few weeks, I’ve recorded almost an hour of carefully designed material to create a professional AI version of my own voice.
Not simply a voice that sounds broadly similar to me - I wanted it to preserve the qualities I actually use in my work:
• calm authority
• natural warmth
• mature British delivery
• an intelligent, conversational style
• the ability to explain professional subjects clearly
I soon discovered that creating a credible AI voice involves much more than uploading a collection of old videos, podcasts and Zoom recordings - the recording environment matters, consistency matters and microphone position and recording levels matter (obviously!)
Most importantly, the material you read needs to give the model a sufficiently broad and accurate representation of how you naturally communicate.
So I created and recorded a purpose-built corpus of forty modules, covering different subjects, vocabulary, pacing and emotional registers. The finished recordings ran for approximately 57 minutes. I then added material specific to my own professional work before creating a Professional Voice Clone with ElevenLabs.
Along the way, I kept notes on the practical decisions, technical settings and occasional mistakes that made the greatest difference. I’ve turned the most useful points into a free download: The Professional AI Voice Recording Checklist.
It’s designed for anyone considering creating a professional AI voice and covers the principal things to check before recording, while recording and before uploading the finished files.
You can download it here:

For those ready to undertake the complete project, I’ve also developed The AI Voice Blueprint™ - the full methodology, Quick Start Guide and forty-module recording corpus I used.
But if you’re still exploring the idea, begin with the free Checklist. It should help you decide what you already have, what you may need and whether you’re genuinely ready to start recording.
