Israel is heading to snap elections after the Knesset voted 110-0 to advance its dissolution. The political crisis, triggered by the collapse of Netanyahu's coalition over the Haredi draft standoff, has taken an even more troubling turn with reports that the prime minister's allies are pursuing an unprecedented legal effort to ban the Arab Ra'am party from the ballot. Ra'am chairman Mansour Abbas called the move "anti-democratic" and warned the Shin Bet not to become "a tool in the hands of the political echelon." For British Jews, the instability and democratic questions carry direct consequences for communal security and advocacy. https://thejewishweekly.com/israel-knesset-dissolution-2026-netanyahu-raam/

The April ceasefire between the US and Iran is unravelling fast. Fresh strikes on Bandar Abbas, retaliatory Iranian missiles targeting an American base in Kuwait, and Trump rejecting any deal he calls a fabrication. For British Jews, this is not a distant conflict. The CST warned in March that war with Iran heightens the risk of attacks here. Since then: two men stabbed in Golders Green, synagogues firebombed, an IRGC-linked commander charged in New York with plotting 18 attacks including those on UK soil. The terror threat is severe. The £25 million in extra government funding and 100 new Met officers are welcome, but as the Chief Rabbi said, the campaign of intimidation is gathering momentum. https://thejewishweekly.com/hormuz-ceasefire-deal-crumbles-iran-us-strikes/
