The Superyacht Group interviewed Kirk Oldfield, Production Manager at Pendennis Vilanova, to gain insights into their operations in Vilanova.

Located just outside of Barcelona, Pendennis Vilanova offers yachts easy access to a modern marina and technical service centre in the heart of the Mediterranean.

A flexible approach and on-site facilities provide the perfect solution for any yacht, whether they are looking for a brief pit stop, a longer-term berthing option or the ability to conduct a Mediterranean-based refit.

The technical service centre features a 200-tonne and 620-tonne hoist, allowing for versatile haul-outs and manoeuvres. With control over marina operations, they efficiently manage vessel movements, supporting refits both in the shipyard and the marina.

Pendennis Vilanova offers various options for clients, including self-managed projects, a hybrid model with self-management and Pendennis team collaboration, and fully Pendennis-led projects.

Her Pedigree Shines On...

Huisfit offers solutions for various types of conversions: lengthening hulls, adding carbon composite or aluminium superstructures, transforming racers into luxury yachts, and complete replacement of interiors.

The schooner Athos underwent a major conversion by Huisfit, involving updates to the interior and exterior, including extending the stern, redesigning cockpits, adding a navigation deckhouse, and installing new sails and rigging.

Huisfit’s capability and reputation for quality led to obtaining the project. For the owner, it was a bonus to take Athos back to the location where she was originally built in 2010, now Huisfit’s Amsterdam deep water refit facility.

‘We must be proactive on crew welfare’

First appearing in The Superyacht Report - New Build Focus, Charles Boyle, Director of Legal Services, Nautilus International, says regulations compliance isn’t enough and that crew welfare must take priority.

The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) mandates standards for seafarer accommodations, with recent changes requiring social connectivity and improved internet access onboard.

The UK's Tripartite Working Group ensures implementation flexibility for vessels, prioritizing crew preferences. However, the industry must go beyond mere compliance and take proactive steps to enhance crew well-being.

Nautilus International continues to advocate for the advancement of crew welfare.
