US public transport advertising has always fascinated me (I love New York City's Cockroach motel ads "They check in, but they don't check out").

One of this pair, on Chicago's CTA. prompted me to research. Approx 1.2-2.3% of Americans have OCD at some time in their lives (figures for China may be higher), so targeting an audience of up to one in 40 commuters, may make more sense that I imagined.

40 years ago, I wrote this, in an eccentric book called 'The Wine Lists' (my first to be published).

Today, Poland has 1,000ha of vines and some very respectable wine. Some Poles expect that number to rapidly grow to match the UK's current 5,000.

(Which, based on the British experience, I'd say was commercially unwise)

They're also colourful and provide a party atmosphere, but long ones would be better than round ones

Lunch al fresco in the hills of Lechkhumi in the northwest of Georgia, at an altitude of around 600m.

That big bottle is full of the vineyard manager's home made sweet red.

40g of residual sugar per litre (which is typical for this style in Georgia) plus a touch of VA.

But it went down just fine and set me wondering how much more wine would be drunk in the world if more stuff like this (without the VA) were on offer - instead of the 'you've got to learn to appreciate this dry red' model we've adopted.

Felix Solis, maker of Mucho Mas and the Guv'nor would probably have an answer...
