High Sierra, one of the key movies in Humphrey Bogart’s career, was released on this day in 1941. With his performance as “Mad Dog” Roy Earle, Bogie began his transition from supporting actor to leading man. Perhaps even more importantly, High Sierra represented the first professional collaboration between Bogart and John Huston, who co-wrote the film’s script. After the film’s success, Huston was able to make his directorial debut with The Maltese Falcon, and he cast Bogart as Sam Spade. The rest, as they say, is history.
