The conductor Christoph von Dohnányi created a vast recorded legacy with both the Cleveland and Vienna Philharmonic orchestras. Following on from his complete Cleveland Orchestra recordings released last year, we now offer the companion volume.

This 31-CD/1-DVD set incorporates all the conductor’s Wiener Philharmoniker recordings, from Mozart and Beethoven to Stravinsky and Schoenberg — orchestral, vocal works and opera.

In addition to these, there are recordings with the Wiener Symphoniker and the set is filled out with recordings with other European orchestras. Includes original jackets, session photos and an insightful and detailed note by Andrew Stewa

Everyone at Decca Classics was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Christoph Von Dohnányi on Saturday. We send our condolences to his wife Barbara and the family.

Dohnányi created a vast recorded legacy with his beloved Cleveland and Vienna Philharmonic orchestras. He was also a powerful and articulate advocate for the place of orchestras and classical music in society; something which his wartime childhood had impressed deeply upon him. We mourn his loss but celebrate an extraordinary life in music.
