Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior officials voiced strong condemnation after French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would recognise a Palestinian state during a UN General Assembly session in September.

In a statement, Netanyahu slammed the move as “rewarding terror,” referencing the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack. “I strongly condemn President Macron’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state next to Tel Aviv in the wake of the October 7 massacre,” he said, warning it “rewards terror and risks creating another Iranian proxy, just as Gaza became.”

He added, “A Palestinian state in these conditions would be a launch pad to annihilate Israel not to live in peace beside it,” asserting, “the Palestinians do not seek a state alongside Israel; they seek a state instead of Israel.”

Justice Minister Yariv Levin called Macron’s move “a disgrace in French history” and urged Israel to annex West Bank settlements: “Now is the time to apply sovereignty to Judea and Samaria.”

Defense Minister Israel Katz also criticised Macron, saying, “Instead of standing by Israel at this critical moment, the French president chooses to weaken us... We will never allow the creation of a Palestinian entity that threatens our existence.”

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, issued a warning on Wednesday about the increasing threat of famine in the Gaza Strip, stating that the amount of food entering the blockaded area is “well below what is needed for survival.”

“A significant portion of Gaza’s population is starving. There’s no other way to describe it except mass starvation — and it is caused by human actions,” Ghebreyesus told reporters.

He emphasised that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening rapidly and urged the international community to take immediate action to guarantee the free and unhindered delivery of food and humanitarian aid.

Israel’s parliament has approved a symbolic measure calling for the annexation of the occupied West Bank, a clear attempt to legitimise decades of military occupation and settler expansion on Palestinian land.

The West Bank, home to millions of Palestinians, has been under Israeli occupation since 1967. Over the years, Israel has constructed hundreds of illegal settlements, displacing Palestinian communities and entrenching an apartheid system that strips Palestinians of their basic rights.

Annexing occupied land is a direct violation of international law. Yet Israeli leaders continue to act with impunity, empowered by far-right extremism and a lack of accountability from the global community. This move is not about security. It is about erasing Palestinian land, lives, and sovereignty.
