"Throwing myself into the deep-end in Mexico without a word of Spanish was a great life lesson. It taught me patience, and how bloody easy I've got it in a world that is very much English language friendly.
It also taught me how kind people can be, and that when in doubt; never underestimate the power of a big smile".

"I left my job at RGA, my flat, my girlfriend and I left for to New York with the money of my first salary in my pocket without knowing anyone. I remember arriving there, it was snowing, I didn't have an American phone number and I had to find a place to live in the next three days.”

"I was born in Germany, learnt to crawl in Pakistan. I was a toddler in Kuwait, went to kindergarden in France. Started primary school in the United Arab Emirates. Studied in Germany, Canada, the USA and Denmark. I lived and worked in Australia for the past two years and am currently travelling Indonesia. If home is where the heart is, then I’d like to consider myself a citizen of the world".

"Every single person who moved here has an interesting story to tell. Most people are passionate about what they do, they aren't bored or unmotivated. NYC is too expensive and exhausting to live in just to be bored: you come here because you are on a mission. Because you want to achieve something and make something happen. This attitude is addictive."

"Our findings provide evidence that helps us better understand the impacts of immigration in United States history.

The first is that, in the long-run immigration has had extremely large economic benefits. The second is that there is no evidence that these long-run benefits come at short-run costs.
In fact, immigration immediately led to economic benefits for those already living in the area in the form of higher incomes, higher productivity, more innovation, and more industrialization."

An important issue within current American political discourse is the impact that immigrants have on the communities into which they settle. While this topic has received significant attention, the focus has tended to be the shortrun effects of immigrants. However, another important question is the…

"Living abroad helped me realize what I liked about living on the west coast. Canyons and endless highways. I try to fit all that into my music. I think a lot goes on under the surface. The best I can do is being honest and hoping that the listeners can find some of themselves in my work".

"It would probably be a message to everyone in Britain, not just foreigners, to say that there is a window of opportunity to bring the famed diversity of London back out to continental Europe and be part of the movement that develops those major capitals into alt-Londons".

"Aiming to challenge the negative connotations that the word has historically held – alien, other, outsider – Foreigner celebrates cultural diversity by showcasing stories of ‘challenges, inspiration and creativity.’ It’s a welcome counterweight in these times of increased xenophobia, Europe-bashing and anti-immigrant sentiment. Be a foreigner and proud!"

"Being a foreigner is not always easy. You are often the target to many prejudices and expressing yourself can be a challenge and many people don’t have the patience to listen. The message I would give to my younger self or to anyone thinking to leave home for a foreign country is: get ready. Study hard and learn the language if want to have the best chances for success."

"Back then I didn’t know that being an illustrator was even a job. The whole creative industry felt like it was more about who you knew than about what you did. I didn’t have any contacts as my parents had no connection in the creative industry. When I arrived in London I realised that it wasn’t about who you knew, it was about the quality of your work. Even if your English was rubbish as long as your work was good you would get given a chance.
I also found there were more bridges between disciplines in London. Here, you can reinvent yourself or even change path as long as you have the drive and the talent".
