Summer Holiday songs of the 80's - back to France 🇫🇷 today!

Ottowan had already topped the chart in the UK in 1980 with D.I.S.C.O. but this has FEELGOOD FRIDAY vibes, and it's played at every holiday reps party in Spain by order of Spanish law* (*this might be totally made up by me, but it's not impossible!)

Reaching No.1 in Denmark, Ireland, Norway, & Spain, it reached No.3 in the UK.

"Hands Up! (Give Me Your Heart)" pushes you to instant surrender, pass me the Sangria and the Sombrero, I'm in & dancing like nobody is watching! (Standard form).

Summer Holiday songs of the 80’s!

If you failed Geography at school in the 1980’s, you can blame Ryan Paris! He’s not from Paris, he’s from Italy!! 🇮🇹 Talk about being confused!

This is classic Italo Disco, and it was huge! It topped the charts in Argentina, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands & Spain! Notice it wasn’t number 1 in France, they knew he wasn’t one of theirs despite the video being filmed in Paris! His real name is Fabio Roscioli!

Anyway, you can’t escape a great track

Summer Holiday hits of the 80’s! Back in Austria 🇦🇹 today!

In 1986 this song blindsided the chart for Falco! The first German language song to top the Billboard Top 100! It also reached No.1 in the UK, Austria, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and West Germany!

After his death in 1998 following a car accident he remains a European pop icon, with fans still making pilgrimages to his grave in Vienna.

What a legacy!

European Holiday songs of the 80’s! Today it’s a collaboration between 🇮🇹 Italian producers and Jimmy McShane, a singer from Northern Ireland!

“Tarzan Boy” was a one hit wonder in the UK reaching No.3 in 1985, but make no mistake - this song was MASSIVE in Europe, reaching No.1 in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain! Even today it remains incredibly popular at 80’s events,

Just like Tarzan, Jimmy McShane didn’t have a beard either! 🤔

Holiday songs of the 80’s. Today it’s Spain! 🇪🇸

In 1981 this smooth dude with a smart suit, olive skin, and an obviously Spanish sound in his voice seduced the UK chart with “Begin The Beguine”, it had a very late 70’s sound and was the holiday song of the year as Brits heard it on the Spanish holiday and wanted a reminder of the sunburn!

It spent one week at No.1 at the start of December and no doubt had people clamouring for their Cosmos Holidays 1982 travel brochure!

Summer Holiday songs from the 80's! Today it's Italy! 🇮🇹

In 1988 Sabrina Salerno gave us the instantly recognisable Eurodisco track "Boys (Summertime Love") and a "must-see" video that broke pause buttons on every VCR that it graced! It was released in Europe in 1987 & UK in 1988 - it hit Top 10 in every country of release aside from Australia where it peaked at No. 11.

Gents, if you are of a certain age in 2025, you know the video, just don't play it to your Mum!

Holiday songs from the 80's - today it's Austria!! 🇦🇹

If you're going to have one hit in the UK and then disappear then this is how to do it. Anthemic, easy to sing, chants, big drum fills, this has it all.

Opus are still performing 40 years later, and this song still hits. Back then it was a great track, now it's great nostalgia that you finally understand.

Live Is Life!

Original video recorded in January 1985 at Arena Vienna, Austria, directed by Anders Stenmo, produced by OPUS - music renewed

There aren’t many people in life that are instantly and instinctively loved, this man was one of that elite group.

So terribly sad to hear of the passing of Richard Routledge, the man behind my favourite clothing store What is Hip.

A great man, a kind man, a caring & generous man who always took an interest in you and your life. The man behind legendary parties and events. A life well lived.

A family man, both Mita & I send our love to Mark and the rest of his family. Thank you for your love and support Richard, my wardrobe will always bear your heritage. Thank you for being our friend.

God bless you RIP and plan Richard’s Parties for the great and good in heaven ❤️
