One of the most enduring and beloved holiday songs of all time, Greg Lake’s “I Believe in Father Christmas,” celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. First released in 1975, the track has long stood as a thoughtful, timeless reflection on the meaning of Christmas— its beauty, its complexities, and the hope it inspires.
Greg and fellow King Crimson co-founder Pete Sinfield wrote the lyrics while relaxing in Greg's big leather lounge chairs during the second half of 1975, in time for Greg to record the single and the video. The song was originally written in protest at the commercialisation of Christmas, but has since, decade after decade, been recognised by fans for its timeless message of peace and unity during the holiday season.
To mark the anniversary, a newly remastered 50th Anniversary Video for “I Believe in Father Christmas” has been created. The animated piece brings renewed life to Lake’s
iconic composition, pairing its sweeping orchestration with imagery that resonates across generations.
